Yeah, one of the things that struck me when reading about the development of the SR-71 and F-117[1] was how a lot of what we consider "start-up" culture has already existed in one form or another. [1] https://www.amazon

Had to write the SDP handshake and re-build a subset of SCTP from scratch since the only SCTP implementation uses a global listener which doesn't play nice for a clean server implementation(it was also a royal pain to compile in a way

Yup, it's been a while since I read the spec but I believe it leaves the transport up to what can be negotiated for maximum compatibility. If you handle the SDP and SCTP handshake you can force it to only use UDP via SCTP. Chrome and F

That's also true in Games and VoIP, only things that need to be reliable have acks for them.

You can already do this with WebRTC, you just need and implementation that won't fall back to TCP if the UDP negotiation fails.

Using the term "zero" is not the best choice. UDP packets have the same latency as TCP packets, you're just saving the handshake. Games and VoIP still have latency, they're usually structured such the data loss and dupli

I've always wanted to mess around with the beagle black since the two PRUs are supposedly built to handle cases exactly like this.

Most of the comments I've seen from authors have been pretty negative. My limited understanding is that previously they had a 1:1 backing of physical book to what could be "checked out" digitally. Now with the NEL they'v

Yup, so much truth here. Take a look at Real-time Collision Detection[1]. I takes a great look at both algorithmic complexity and cache awareness. That's how it should be done. [1] https://www.amazon.com/dp/15586

Yup, linear data reads are easily 10-30x faster than random thanks to cache miss penalty staying static since the 90s. If you want to see real-world DDR speeds figure out what algorithms do linear reads.

Certainly not independent but given the option of supporting people in a time of need and pushing them back to work and stressing the healthcare capacity of the county we certainly seem to be trending towards the latter.

Usually they don't say the quiet part out loud, and yet here we are. We're incredibly fortunate in tech that we can do a large portion of work remotely, many people aren't so lucky. One would think that we'd value life a

So... it's the same problems that we've always had hosting a dedicated game server fleet. Game solutions have always been custom because there's never some one-size-fits-all engine(although bless Unreal and Unity for taking a

Well isn't everything "at scale" difficult? I just don't see what makes this special, dedicated servers don't require GPUs, just a good amount of cpu and a moderate amount of network bandwidth. This just feels more

It's been a while since I spun up a dedicated server but how is this anything special compared to just spinning up normal server instances? I see a lot of buzzwords but nothing that stands out technically. Throw some cpu+memory, open a

None of the things you're talking about exist within the repo tool, it sounds like these are all things that you had to layer on top with a separate CI system. It's been 12 years since the Dream was released and we're still n

I think we'll just have to agree to disagree. It sounds like we just come from different development cultures. Your solution to lack of locking sounds like a top-down hierarchy that wouldn't be flexible enough to support the teams

If by P4 centric you also mean SVN as well then sure. I will say however that if you think locking is optional then you already don't understand these workflows and why they're so critical. Art/design/animation doesn
