As ex-game dev this is all right on the mark. Back when I was in gamedev the "code" checkout was ~160gb. The "art" checkout was ~500gb and the raw repo size was on the order of 3-4TB. Last I kicked the tires proper on mo

The whole focus on this makes no sense to me as well. UMA has been standard architecture for mobile SoCs since the dawn of time(aside from a few oddballs). Ditto tiling GPUs and the few other things I've seen called out. Heck the XBox

I've worked in industries(gamedev) that bias towards hiring people who "give a shit". It leads to that passion being exploited into crunch time, burnout and all the fun things that entails. What I've found is that you sh

Yeah, the FCC has an explicit carve-out in the amateur radio Part 97 for uplink remote control using encryption(97.211b). I would assume they'd use at least something similar here.

Yup, if I recall from the article the actual power numbers were NDA'd but pointed towards AMD destroying Intel on a battery usage basis. Sadly very few companies are integrating the higher end Zen chips.

If you're doing ground work with a tractor then weight is actually a good thing. The way it was always explained to me is weight determines what the tractor is capable of, horsepower is how quickly you could do it.

I would add that part of that experience is seeing how teams/situations/products pan out and then being able to recognize those patterns and nudge/head off issues early in the process. In that respect I've learned a lot

Honestly most of the iterative parts of gamedev I worked on was either already up in the tooling/editor or in a scripting language. I think Rust for core engine and Lua for game logic would be a pretty solid combo.

Yeah, you can actually simulate a good chunk of this with just trig, I actually simulated a mixer[1] in python and was able to work out how I/Q got mixed into the baseband, it was a ton of fun. Once you've got the data in I/Q

If you want to get pedantic, the band used will determine what natural phenomenon impacts the received signal. Even in those cases FEC and dynamic modulation will let the signal work(at reduced throughout). That said unless we're talki

For the RF side of things a ham radio license is a fun thing to have. Although you do have to dig a bit to find sections of the hobby that focus more on the digital side of things.

Spectrum is a shared resource, it's a cost we all pay. Part 15 doesn't give you a free pass to blast RFI everywhere. If you're over the legal limit and found to be broadcasting you will be asked to stop using it.

I don't believe I said at any point that printf isn't useful, there's just reasons why you don't use it. Heck, even on the PSP which had a fair amount of horsepower console logging was a blocking read and we avoided it u

Look, I'm not knocking printf, for larger systems it's great. However you're just not gonna spin up a UART debug console for an ATTiny, I've seen printf take ~2k of flash which would be 1/4 of your total storage gon

I think there's been one project I worked on that had a UART hooked up to printf, usually the pin+code overhead didn't make sense. LED or Logic Analyzer are usually where I lean before reaching for printf.
