USCIS still has a lot of leeway over how they adjudicate visa applications (both standards and the time duration) and this is used by the administration through political appointees to shape who and how many people they admit. Post 2016, th

My most charitable explanation is that these topics do not lead to any novel discussions and instead creates flame wars between the pro and anti visa people for no benefit.

Typically HN seems to down weight any discussions on visas or immigration to keep it off the front page, but for what it's worth it's important to point out that this lottery system was designed by USCIS and recently changed post

I think the parent comment meant that there doesn't seem to be any cost to making jokes at the expense of Asians. A similar parody letter based on stereotypes about black people will pretty much end their career, no matter the intent.

I used to be a regular NPR donor. Sometime after 2016 there were a lot of changes on the legal immigration side of things that affected a lot of indians, and there was little to no coverage by NPR. That's when I realized I am not their

It’s hard to believe but the walker edison brand of furniture sold online actually has solid wood options and is cheaper with better tolerances than ikea. Ikea tolerances are indeed trash. I have the same hemnes dresser

One thing I don't see mentioned here is unnecessary surgeries being performed on elder patients. My wife was a home health OT for a small rural county. She was primarily doing post-op rehab at home. Recently, she noticed a lot of old p

I am really, really not a fan of IDEs being a part of the environment in which you execute the code. Basically I want my virtual environment separate from the IDE code. Both Spyder and Jupyter do this and I don't like it.

Sometimes I wonder what the end game is for US healthcare. Costs for private (even employer subsidized) insurance keeps going up every year, and then you have Medicare, Medicaid and ACA on the other hand for a separate set of individuals wh

It's important to note that Ford made the decision to bring the F150 and Mach E to market ASAP as opposed to taking the time to develop a separate EV platform (like GM and Hyundai), probably why their design isn't optimized. IIRC

Me and my friends watch netflix only on TV and subscribe to the 4K plan, one TV each. Now, if they make us buy our own plans, they should atleast make a single-device UltraHD tier.
