Follow-up (didn't see the updated docs). Looks like there is some support for client-side state through "Client Schema Extensions" — excited to play with this. I do also hope that this iteration brings with it better docs — t

The learning curve for Apollo is a bit shallower for two reasons: (1) they have GraphQL libraries that allow you to implement a Relay-like client on top of an existing GraphQL end point (Relay requires some custom fields); and (2) better do

Exciting to see! I've been waiting on this since we decided to use Relay for our application about 6 months ago. Relay is amazing but quite an investment (especially mutations). I'm a bit worried, however, that Relay Modern has fo

The behavior of some of the author's colleagues is incredibly embarrassing, and the behavior of some of the author's managers is just reprehensible. I hope that the more reprehensible behavior is simply an indicator of the problem

The point is well taken, but sitting on my couch in PJs everyday would definitely make me very, very depressed; economic freedom or not. I'm very sincerely happy that this guy found his way, but I can confidently say that this is not f

I feel a bit bad being so superficial, as the app has real merits, but the design is really painful. The app icon is just awful and, unfortunately, it is only a hint of what's to come upon launching the app. I hope it's successful

I paid for Kippt early on because I thought it was such a nicely designed and well thought out tool. I'm really happy to see them pivoting like this because they're such a talented team. This seems like a potentially useful reorga

One of the many ironies of a government shutdown is that it always increases debt (unless it were unprecedentedly long, which wouldn't necessarily decrease the debt either, it's just unknown). Think of it like a car on the freeway

Although I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with LinkedIn, I think this article is a little off; as many point out, it's fairly easy to set email preferences on LinkedIn. This article was useful, however, as it reminded me t

I've been using the developer preview for a few months and can confirm that, at least for me, the disagreements start to fade pretty quickly. Not to say that their aren't still some problems, but that initial shock seems to be mos

I'm glad someone posted this. My immediate thought after reading the breaking news about the massive phone surveillance was, "wait, did people not think this was happening?" I'm really not a conspiracy nut, but that Wired article and the NY

No idea. I have been looking for some indication in the coverage but there's been none that I've seen. It seems clear (see my reply before) that it replaces the lock screen when it's not password protected.

It's pretty clear from the website and the coverage that it does replace the lock screen itself: https://www.facebook.com/home Now, whether or not it replaces the lock screen when it has a passcode/security, is a different story. But, by

I think the more obvious and immediate threat to privacy is that anyone can see the contents of your facebook stream right on the lock screen; and they can even interact with the contents without unlocking the phone.

This looks like an excellent step in the right direction, but I do have one worry here: native apps. The New York Times has had several experiments over the last year that indicate a desire to move everyone on to the web and out of native a

I'm not trying to apologize for Apple's mess -- and it is a mess -- but your theory doesn't hold for me. Some places are genuinely fine: I'm in San Francisco and the maps really are pretty damn good (in SF, I'll actually use the word good).

This may seem like a good analogy, but it's not. NYTimes owns their data; that's their intellectual property and no one would contest that. The posts on Craigslist are, if anything (see last paragraph), the property of the individual poster
