By CL's Terms of Use, it's not CL's data. They just post it. It's clearly a gray area, but let's be clear: IT'S NOT CL'S DATA. Craigslist actually makes it clear that it's the user's data and that when it's posted on CL, it's being posted p

Whoops, my (really) bad! I don't know why I remembered this incorrectly. Google web fonts has Open Sans--not bad by Google web fonts standards, but no ideal sans. http://www.google.com/webfonts/specimen/Open+Sans

Very cool. This is only tangentially related, but I was surprised (and delighted) to see that Ideal Sans is available for free from Google web fonts. It is one of the truly top-tier fonts on Google web fonts; so if you're considering a sans

I think you're absolutely right, but this falls in the category of a lot of the comments in this thread: the "for now" category. I think anyone who assumes that the iPad or something-like-the-iPad (Windows 8, if you like) isn't where the va

I own multiple copies of office and use them every day, but the author has an interesting point. And that point isn't revealed through me, or even (probably) the person reading this comment, it's revealed through my mother. My mom is an att

(a) This is great. I've been using Maps+, which is a really impressive little app, but it's complexity often makes it cumbersome. Yours is very barebones, but in playing around with it, that's an asset. (b) With (a) in mind, there really ne

I'm actually quite frustrated with this trend in consumer tech reporting. If I want tech specs and pictures, I'll go to the product's website. What I can't do is play with the object, use it, and decide (subjectively!) whether or not it's a

I think you're misreading the whole thrust of the article. What Marco was getting at was that he can't help him in light of his (Outlook user's) expectations. The article is saying (1) Marco has a use pattern that works well for Marco, (2)

This is great. I've been watching things like codecademy get tons of buzz and quietly thought: has no one been over to Think Vitamin Membership? I think this rebranding is a great idea and the new design is wonderful. Now add in some of tha

I'm certainly no expert here, so take my thoughts with a large, large block of salt. By way of example, I do know that the typical action of dragging a file on to the application's icon in the dock will allow an app to open that file, just

On what the article claims: my understanding is that the sandbox restricts all non-user initiated actions. That is, if a user initiates it by clicking, dragging, OK-ing, etc., then all the old system interactions are still allowed. If you w

An object like this, which on its face evidences that a great amount of care and attention to detail went into it, immediately has my attention. Now let's hope it works as beautifully as it looks because I sincerely hate my thermostat.

I had the exact same question and your idea as to the answer is interesting. Perhaps this new behavior is in response to Newsstand's ability to automatically download new issues--users may allow those to stack up without any thought and run

I think Google needs to refocus on the real problem: not having internet access. [joking, but seriously...]

I agree, I haven't had these issues either. Lion has worked very well for me and my old MacBook Pro is actually faster because of it. The one persistent bug I have is opening files/links into full-screened apps. For example, clicking a link

I've been wracking my brain on this one and have yet to come up with a theory that doesn't end in: that place is on fire. I think WebOS is wonderful, and wished HP had stuck to its guns, but this is just strange. It reeks of internal anarc

This post didn't even need words, just that progression of screenshots. Windows 7 feels almost like a nice breeze and them, wham, that Windows 8 monstrosity. Functional, data-driven arguments will never convince me that a user's first react

Honestly, I don't think Cringely has said a single astute or accurate thing about Apple in a long while. His track record is terrible--just a stream of semi-coherent link-bait. Someone should put a garbage disposal over Cringely's mouth; at

Jobs' resignation comes as a surprise to no one, Jobs least of all. That is, this has been a long time coming and it seems safe to reason that Jobs has made it his primary duty over the last five years to ensure that an Apple without him wi

This is very nicely done. I would like to see a long-form explanation from Recurly about the safety implications of this, however. Maybe it really is brilliantly bullet-proof, but please explain.

As much as this is obnoxious, pageview link-bait, they do have some smart calls. In addition to the YC crowd, Marco, DuckDuckGo, etc. I think they really highlighted some great blogs, including This is my Next, among others.

The primary point of Buffett's article isn't even addressed here: most people pay a much higher percent of their income to the federal government than do the "mega-rich" (I do have to say that don't really like Buffett's term there) and, fu

I understand (and appreciate) that part of HN's brand/allure is how simple and pared-down it is, but I think we can make room for this tab--it would be a great service to the community this site was built for. Right?

This is a prime illustration of how absurd our immigration policy has begun. To steal Kottke's sentiment: We need people like this on our team!
