There's always shadow policies at places like these. The buzz-word bingo of core values is for marketing and designed to captivate people (usually young) that haven't learned to call bullshit when they see it.

I mean the timing sucks, but really the question that would be running through my mind is what kind of company culture is encouraging folks to work at 3am on New Years Day? There shouldn't be much more than a skeleton crew of Ops folks

Why shouldn't it be a question? Why do we allow it in the first place?

Biking sucks, it is dangerous and uncomfortable in snow, rain, cold, and heat.

It's wise to be cautious when it comes to anonymously donated money.

None of this is surprising. It's not about the code it's about figuring out a reason to fire people to cut costs dramatically since the company isn't profitable at its current footprint or with its current Chief Moron making

My first introduction to bsp was qeradiant while making q3a and later sof2 maps. There used to be a bsp compilation stage that I recall. At the time I had no idea what it meant.

Depending on how long and deep the recession is, engineers will get impacted at some point.

Hate them. Just give me a damn paper menu. Also, it's the worst when dealing with my senior parents who struggle with technology and basically don't know how to use their smartphones.

One drink every couple of months is very different from say one drink every night or even one drink 2-3 times a week which is usually what I picture as the typical "one drink" person.

I drink but when I don't want to drink I just dont... I guess this is useless advice if you have an even moderately addictive personality though. One drink; one water is also a great way to drink. It'll slow your consumption and k

Keys do not need to be strings in Java either, you need to properly implement equals and hashCode() methods though for the key type. Also Java has like ten different implementations of Map<K,V> depending on various use cases.

Without knowing the financials of this deal it's hard to evaluate the ridiculousness of it. There's still generations alive that think highly of Bruce Willis, but I gotta imagine for Gen Z and younger he's just another guy in

1. Grab bottle of preferred liquor or wine. 2. Walk towards the bright glowing light. You (probably) don't want to live in a post-nuclear world.

This is why I'm starring to get interested in games programming. It is so far removed from the kind of code I do for a living that it is a lot of fun and recaptured the magic of learning to code when I was 11ish.

You need to stop playing Sim City, walkable cities are a fantasy in the US. You need broad political support to basically redesign every city outside NYC and some parts of SF, Seattle, and Boston. It will never happen.

I predict the GPU will need to be externalized in the future with its own cooling and power system. You'll plug into the motherboard via some cable interconnect. They're simply getting too big, power hungry and hot to keep in colo

Always amused on Blind about people posting leaving Microsoft for Amazon because TC is the only thing folks seem to focus on there. I've known dozens of Amazon engineers and I've never met one that was happy.

Go's vanilla HTTP server lib gets pretty close to being not much more than an HTTP parsing library. Some people pull in a routing library, but a lot of times its all done manually by processing off the incoming http.Request struct.

This feels like the 3D TV redux. A feature nobody asked for cooked up in some industry board room by executives desperate to find a way to make tvs have a premium feature set so they can increase margins.
