Is there a valid source for this number? All the articles I see seem to quote each other.

I question the methodology. To measure this I would have N processes reading the file from disk with the max number of parallel heads (typically 16 I think). These would go straight into memory. It's possible you could do this with one

Building up complexity is not so bad if you have the mindset that lets you have a fresh start, learning from all your mistakes and accomplishments. That's why I started http://civboot.org . I want to take the best parts (tho

Okay let me get this straight... Are you saying that I don't need to use parenthesis as much in lisp? Instead I could define a few "reader macros" and then immediately have a different syntax? Say if I wanted to change

Forth is even more "down to the metal" than lisp, but yes I agree it is quite impressive.

It seems like it's trying to simplify the tech stack, so I thought it might be something the author was interested in.

Really cool stuff. It still uses GCC, which itself is several million lines of code. I wonder if they have a desire to port to something like QBE (~12k line backend) and cproc (~8k C frontend for QBE).

"Syntax is the easiest part of being a software engineer." This is probably the best quip I've heard all week. I'm developing a language with "no syntax", every token is executed immediately, making it trivial

So the answer is "use bazel" or "use Nixpkg" since then every input is not only known by the build system, but is hashed in the dependency tree?

Most probably yes. If it was an actual viable fix you can be almost guaranteed that it would have been implemented long ago. Engineers would love to have their cake and eat it too.
