I agree. It's definitely fun to play with new programming languages and technologies. Using games as a medium to explore a new language is a great way to learn and have fun at the same time. That said, when a game development luminary

+1. Like you, I've seen both sides. Unreal lineage evolved from inheritance-based into ECS-like. Frostbyte is heavily ECS. Googling... the author is ex-amazon, ex-microsoft - with xbone and 360 title experience. Perhaps the author was

It was definitely a real pain to ensure the whole stack was deterministic. Since we only targeted ps3 and xbox360 it was easier to ensure determinism. All in all, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Yup this too. Easy to detect divergence if you compare the output of the rng on both sides of the network at the start of the frame.

We could detect if the simulation diverged. Then we had to replay deterministicly up to the frame of divergence and then break on various things that cause divergence. Floating point underflow/overflow, NaN, uninitialized memory access

Winner winner chicken dinner. We only sent controller input over the wire for network play.

Oh man. On Army of Two we were running a fully deterministic simulation and we had to patch many part of PhysX to maintain determinism. In the end, we had to get a waiver from Sony to ship a binary-patched version PhysX libraries. Good time

I worked on this title for the last year of its existence. I’m not at liberty to discuss much. The project definitely changed in Frostbite 2 era. IIRC the behavior tree GOAP stuff made it into the 3rd Army of Two game, which was also done i

This both sucks and is great. Sucks for me. Hopefully will be great for Mattermost and Matrix. For HIPAA compliant shops Slack is a non-starter. Mattermost will hopefully get a lot of corporate $ now. I wish Matrix's dendrite[0] golang

Right but this is odd considering they used to support it and only quietly updated their support document in May. If a fellow issue commenter on github hadn't linked to it I (and everyone else) would have missed it.

Super worrying to me too. 1.8 marked the move to Open Container Project. I guess this means Open Container Project won't be supporting 6.x. It would have been nice to get more than 1 month of notice.

Completely agreed. It has been a huge help in the migration of legacy systems to containers while underlying monitoring and config infrastructure is being updated to support systemd.

Yeah it's huge in the enterprise. Not everyone has migrated to 7.x with systemd yet.
