It is to be expected. I didn't mean that a leak is unusual, but rather that learning about it this way _feels_ strange.

I know some teams who had a sudden team meeting scheduled by their skip manager for 9 am today. I suspect this is how organization changes will be communicated to affected teams.

We learned about the Microsoft layoffs in the news yesterday and right now nobody knows who will be impacted. I'm sure they will handle it as well as they can, but learning about it from the news first instead of the CEO is also odd. W

I just ordered the M2 Pro Mac Mini that was also released. The Mac Studio was a bit excessive for my music production hobby needs, but I do need the extra cores of the M2 Pro models. Really thrilled they released this.

Your dexterity is lost without practice, but I find that the new licks, chord progressions and other ideas you add to your repertoire to be used in improvisation stick around. This to me is far more valuable than the dexterity which I can r

I'm on call this past week and next week! My on-call is a bit odd because it's both as OSS maintainer deciding whether I need to coordinate a hotfix release, as well as certain functionality within a managed service (PaaS) enabled

All common first names for .dev were listed as premium at the time! I once spoke to someone in charge of the .ink gTLD and they made all animals (among other things) premium domains, but forgot some. For a while I had "sloth.ink"

Perhaps a public interest argument could be made here for making this information more accessible. The whereabouts of a CEO of multiple companies could be of interest for investment decisions. For an ordinary private citizen this would be d

This has been discussed many times - the flight data and aircraft registration details are publicly accessible via the FAA. Posting that data in an easily accessible form hardly violates anyone's privacy.

My five letter first name for some reason was not a premium domain (probably because it's not an English name and someone didn't do their homework) and I pay $12 / year. Of course the name would be snatched up quickly so I di

Selection bias or not - I am saying across any employers out there, go ahead and ask folks. Maybe you don't realize how many people in your companies are or were on H-1B and came via this route. The H-1B program is heavily used by gr

Tata/Infosys etc are some of the largest single employers of H-1Bs, but collectively it really does seem that the majority of new H-1Bs every year are in fact issued to people already in the country on F-1 student visas. Go ahead and a

That really depends on the distribution of the layoffs. The 10-15% percent aren't necessarily all bad performers but might just be people working on teams that are to be disbanded entirely.

I liked Neverwinter Nights 2 -- so no wonder I liked playing The Witcher 1. I think I played on a very underpowered laptop back then (as a college student), so if the engine was sluggish I probably attributed that to gaming on a laptop :D
