Not sure how important this is. Is there a doubt in anyone's mind that FB got Oculus for John Carmack ?

Apple lost my trust with their maps. They were willing to push a bad product to their customers as a negotiating card against Google.

Is it the case that a logarithmic gap is shown for a specific problem ? Why is this a big deal ? Doesn't Grover's algorithm already demonstrate a sqrt(n) gap ?

I think the comment referred to Inktomi (that had just lost the search deal to Google,) not Yahoo.

According to the article, the goal is not to hit any insect with the tail but rather to create an air wave that is impossible for insects to navigate.

The Boyer–Moore majority algorithm [1] which allows you to find the majority element (if one exists) in an unsorted array in linear time and constant space. [1] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boyer%E2%80%93Moore_majority

Google's hash map [1], which is a fresh look at a heavily studied problem. [1] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncHmEUmJZf4

more like a reduction to SAT than a standalone algorithm though.

Interpolation search [1], which allows you to search a sorted array in O(log(log(n))) time, assuming its elements are uniformly distributed (for instance, you are searching a sorted array of hashes.) [1] https://en.wikipedia.org&

The Spectrum ZX from Sinclair. I miss the immediacy of a blinking cursor, just waiting there for you next command. Simple and elegant.

What's wrong with skype now ? I think they've done a good job with it, plus it's a nice platform to test their experimental bot stuff on.

The TL;DR of the article is "Google is dying because ..Google+". Funny argument. If that were the case, then Google would be on life support since Orkut, Wave and many other bets that just didn't pan out. The fact of the matt

It seems to me that the moment you'd need to do anything interesting with a website, you'd need to crawl a lot of its pages and you'd hit robots.txt limitations very quickly.

The energy consumed by the US is less than 0.1% of the energy the planet gets from the Sun, so I'm not sure the 5% comparison holds water. Besides, computers return their energy cost many times over. I do agree with the article's
