No, not really. Siri is not central to the experience. It’s an add-on. It doesn’t make the old iOS devices obsolete (like, say, not supporting iCloud would).

Will ads use CSS animations? The most obvious candidate for ads seems to be canvas which is trivially easy to block. Just like Flash. Either way, the way the advertising industry works there is going to be some sort of de-facto standardized

Certainly. There is also nothing wrong with only bringing new features to new devices. I really honestly don’t understand why this is the slightest bit controversial.

See, that I don’t understand at all. To me “f k” and “fuck” are equivalent. If you want to use a word you should stand by it – it’s also typographically much nicer. “F k” is a lazy cop-out. It doesn’t soften the blow, it only looks ugly.

That sounds like a lame excuse. Maybe he was just unaware that he was swearing so much. I think it’s generally easier to swear in a second language: There are no parents around to tell you not to use certain words. I certainly don’t feel th

Lego are mass produced and they just don’t break. They are basically forever. I played with Lego through all my childhood and I broke maybe a handful of blocks. “Mass produced” is just a bad heuristic for quality.

Why? I’m German and that seems bizarre to me. Swearing is definitely not used independently of context in German.

I’m not really sure why that needs an explanation. All our imaging technologies have a certain maximum resolution. The asteroid is small and far away, ergo we are not going to get many pixels.

But even Murdoch isn't some kind of tyrant – he can't be, even if he wanted to. There is still a lot of pluralism inside of News Corp. You are, of course, correct: Concentration of media ownership is prevalent and a worrying development.

Agenda setting, framing or priming are not opinion change. It's not really known how and how effectivly those effects can change opinions. I would also be wary of characterizing mass media as a single entity. That's just doesn't reflect rea

Media effects research suggests otherwise. This is a hot sociology research topic and debates about how easily media can influence people have been raging for nearly the past century (well, basically ever since mass media arrived). Empirica

No they don’t. Some people genuinely hate notifications. I do, for example. That’s a valid reason for not liking Growl, configurability doesn’t figure into it. If those who hate Growl were to claim that everyone should hate Growl they wou

Not in Germany. To get the iPhone 3GS for 1€ from Deutsche Telekom you have to sign their 60€ contract for 24 months. That’s 1,440€. The same contract costs 50€ without a phone, that’s 1,200€ for 24 months or 240€ less. It’s not really wort

(Doesn’t WP7 have springy lists? Not that it matters, really.) Apple certainly is in a position to not allow arbitrary software. That said, I’m not all that sure whether that’s – all things considered – a net plus for Apple. Jailbreaking is

I still don’t see why this is not a valid comparison. Sure, hardware is independent from software (more or less) but that doesn’t mean you can’t meaningfully compare the two.
