Using Python vs Rust is in no way in the same league as not having tests.

Curious, why would there be?

True, but politeness feels like continuing in English, because I have no idea if they care to struggle through a conversation with me, and asking people that 5 times through the course of every day starts to wear me down.

Those numbers are native or second language. I bet the English numbers shoot way up vs Mandarin if you drop the bar to basic language skills or holding limited conversations.

I don't think it's looks, it's accent. Often someone will start a conversation with me in Norwegian before I've spoken, then switch when I answer. Granted, My Norwegian is not great yet (A2/B1 level), but it still d

I'm an American living in Norway, in a larger city (for Norway). It's hard to learn, because when I try my burgeoning Norwegian, they immediately switch to English. I don't blame them at all, but I see how someone speaking En

That's interesting. I recently moved to Norway, and first had BankID on mobile, which used GSM level encryption to verify. They're deprecating that now for a regular BankID app. But even though it's supported, I don't th

Last time I used Rails was years ago, but I found Rails had a huge mental load when developing. So much magic and inference, you had to carry the whole Rails mental model around with you to read some simple code. I think that's a dange

I don't think sanitation problems on earth are generally technological ones, they're usually money/resource related. Not sure a super-expensive Mars trip solution would have a ton of impact on Earth (maybe though?)

Because Finland is a great example of unions working for the benefit of employees? Why are we constrained to only discussing how (some, not all) unions are in the US?

Not necessarily. As I understand it, in the Nordics, employment conditions and benefits are protected by unions, regardless of an individual's membership.

I think you have a very US-centric lens on unions. In the Nordic countries, for example, unions operate entirely differently. So you need to be clear where your points come from.
