Transparency is first and foremost in my mind. The current company I'm at shares the summaries of every board meeting. That may be overkill, but really the company should be sharing on a regular basis how the company is doing, if any s

If you're doing the hiring, then what you're looking for in a 3rd-party recruiter is really one thing: can they provide qualified candidates to you without you needing to do much work or hand holding. They should be doing basic fi

I've had some good luck with third-party recruiters. There are some truly excellent recruiters, often running their own boutique firms, but the quality definitely varies and frankly a good number of firms do feel like a used car shop.

There are some certifications that do appear to provide real value: the Red Hat certifications and the PMP certifications come to mind. I've also heard that the Microsoft certifications provide value as well. These are typically certif

Congratulations to the OpenBSD team! How crazy is it that the BSDs were not given notice about the Meltdown/Spectre bugs? Especially considering the strong security focus of several of these variants

I always find that WeWork has a very weird vibe. It has all of these companies but nobody talks to each other. It feels oddly sterile. When I worked out of General Assembly, the big benefit was that these companies would talk to each other,

Help build "on-ramps" for the under-privileged. If you live near under-privileged communities try to set up paid internships that will actually help to teach these kids and help them, build a professional network. Get in front of

Not tech related, but I had a history teacher in high school with a stammer. He lectured/led discussions even though he had a stammer and was probably the favorite teacher of students in the entire school. I think he may now be a head

If 18F is hiring, do you know why their hiring page states that there are no open positions? I was surprised by the mention of that in the article, especially since I had attended an event during the hiring freeze

OP here. Looking at the author's CV ( http://www.cs.uni.edu/~okane/resume.html ), he's apparently written a book on Mumps revised in 2016 and presumably does some consulting as well. I would imagine that he inc

Epic is famous for being SUPER-expensive. One of my colleagues told me a story about how some place build a new hospital for I think $500Million and then the Epic installation was $600M. Granted, I think Epic is the most expensive of the E
