He said he tried to call Apple's main line, which kind of sounds like the worst possible way to go about it, in fact it sounds like an intentionally ineffective way to do something so you can say you tried to do it. It sounds like a lame e

I see your perspective, but the guy is an iPhone engineer, I don't think having lost a prototype at a bar in a very public way can possibly add anything to his resume or make him stand out more in a positive way. I could see someone maybe

Wrecked, no, but the dude was unnecessarily abused and humiliated for, as far as I can tell, shits and giggles and ad exposures.

I think it's more that you need to get a lot of publicity to get justice in this country. edit: scratch that, publicity only works because it has the potential to bring more powerful groups to your aid.

Seems kind of... excessive. Granted, I guess if you want to see someone's email correspondence, this is the only way to do it.

Providers with regional monopolies are always the worst companies. They have something you want and you can't get it from anywhere else, so they behave as you'd expect them to behave. To maybe over generalize a bit...

I believe he's referring to Woz being shown the device being "no big deal", not firing the guy. Of course, this leads to the question of why the guy was still fired... though it's quite possible/likely the firing didn't cross Jobs' desk.

I don't follow Android phones that closely, but the HTC Incredible[1] and HTC Evo[2] both look very nice, I'm not sure of the details but it looks like the Incredible is Verizon and the Evo is Sprint...? [1] http://www.engadget.com/2010/04

Who, Adobe? edit: call me when Adobe makes Flash an open spec that they do not control. The outrage over Flash is really starting to make me laugh. Adobe reaps what Adobe sows and they know it.

I don't follow, Apple doesn't control H.264, HTML5 or even WebKit. Or do you mean, pushing those items over adopting Flash? Even so, that's not Apple controlling the web platform, that's just Apple making sure Adobe doesn't control it.

Apple wants to control their platform. Microsoft wanted to control all platforms. There is a difference. Or to put it another way, when I have to buy an iPhone to collaborate with people around me who have iPhones, then you'll have

Hmm, I may have replied to the wrong comment, or misread it. I only meant to say that the device wasn't stolen from Apple campus, not that it couldn't have been stolen at the bar.

IIRC it was confirmed that the engineer was at a bar because he had updated Facebook (via the phone) mentioning the delicious German beer he was drinking (hence the German airline offering him tickets to Germany).

My first naming scheme revolved around monkeys, I had spacemonkey, funkymonkey and.. I forget the third. That one didn't scale well. For a short while I used characters from children's books (mom is a librarian who loves children's books),

Why? You can specialize in one thing and still be critical. Gruber is clearly a fan of Apple (and other companies), but it's not as if he doesn't criticize them when he feels it is appropriate, e.g. he has been very critical of the App Sto

It might make more sense to skip AMD and just get NVIDIA. It would put them in an interesting position with Intel and Tegra seems like some hot tech these days (at least based on the headlines I skim it does).

I'm curious if there is any sort of EULA or click through licensing that prohibits this, or if there was any low level DRM that needed to be hacked around. Apple has a history of trying to thwart efforts to run their software on other hardw
