What if Google bought Adobe and turned Flash into a standards body approved open spec (as opposed to an Adobe run open spec, which I believe it is now)?

The actual notification display doesn't appeal to me, in fact I think it's a horrible idea (though I realize it's intended for Chrome OS), but if another native notification system could intercept... that would be nice.

> Which pretty much sums up the entire reason for 3.3.1. Apple isn't so much concerned with people porting iPhone apps to other platforms as they are apps targeting a lowest common denominator feature set, or targeting a meta-platform

Kind of cool? What determines the notification animation/display? Could Growl conceivably intercept these and display it's own notification window?

Someone needs to make an app for handicapped minorities that comes with an embedded interpreter so we can get properly outraged. I'm not sure you can top children, but then we could call Jobs a racist...

Apple has been enforcing the "no interpreters" rule for a long time.

To add my own opinion to that... Users (and "the product") are more important than your developers, more important than vendors, and more important than business partners. Apple gets this, most other companies don't.

For all definitions of "a few years" that equal "almost a decade and a half".

Your reasoning is solid, but Gruber has repeated the 960x480 resolution a few times in reporting on the future of the iPhone, and typically when he gets that specific about something it's because he knows .

I've been kind of curious how much 3.3.1 outrage was from people who were already outraged. I really don't know how to get a good measure of that, though.

I think you're partially right, but I think some of that quality is just because the platform puts UX as a top priority. I'm speaking very generally, of course, but there is a reason OSX apps have a reputation for looking very polished vs

This is very smart on Google's part. What Android seems to lack is polished apps (at least on the scale of the iPhone), and wooing specific developers could go a long way to remedying that.

I'm not sure that's a very wise tradeoff by Gizmodo. I think it's pretty clear this belongs to Apple, it's just not entirely clear if it's an accurate representation of the 4G iPhone. Even so, couldn't Apple drag their feet and not actuall

The App Store as a single point of distribution is one of the great advantages of the iPhone line, removing that would be a massive mistake, even if it would appease some techies and developers.
