EDIT: if the chart on the Anandtech review is true I have to take back what I wrote below. I didn't know the AMD Radeon Instinct MI50 (6.7 TFLOPS FP64, 16 GB memory with ECC and also 1 TB/s bandwidth) only costs 1000 USD, I expect

Other reports [0] contradict anandtechs tweet and say FP64 is limited. Oh well, on Februrary 7th we will know. [0] https://techgage.com/news/radeon-vii-caps-fp64-performance/

For people who require FP64 performance this seems like a really good deal. The Titan V which also has 6.9 TFlops FP64 costs $2999, has 12 GByte memory compared to the Radeon VII's 16 GByte, and it has only 652.8 GB/s memory bandw

On /r/amd a user posted a different photo [0] taken from the stream which - to a layman like me - looks like there is circuitry (or whatever?) for a second chiplet. [0] https://i.imgur.com/gzXaoJz.png

Since Rome (their server part) uses 8 chiplets for 64 cores it makes sense. When Rome was presented last year users also speculated about GPU and FPGA chiplets. Playstation 5 rumors also speculate about chiplets to keep the price to perform

Why are they very different? They port the language over to another platform and need to interop with it. For example scala.js can call js libraries through facades (similar to typescript typing files) but can also be called from javascript

Do you mean the comment under the article that mentions HBM? If so I think they refer to these papers by AMD: https://www.computermachines.org/joe/publications/pdfs/hpca2... https://seal.ece.ucsb.e

Sorry, I've meant analog circuitry, which I've read again and again about on CPUs - see below as one example. And it was also mentioned in some articles about the IO die on Zen 2. > Intel’s analog designers are responsible for

People who follow the tech press talk about the same thing when talking about nm, and they know TSMC 7nm competes with Intel 10nm not Intel 14nm. It's been all over the town for months that TSMCs 7nm is estimated to be worse than Intel

I'm really curious about cache on the IO die. Ian Cutress of Anandtech said Rome is ~ 1000 mm² in total. [0] Based on that and the pictures of the Rome die that were shown some users [1] estimated the size of the IO die to be 387 - 407
