You'd think that, but to sell it you'd have to phrase it that way in your marketing so people know what to expect. Thats what marketing is sort of about most of the time, managing people's expectations. There a difference between saying "ou

You have to be careful with marketing to get this to work, but I think lots of people would love it. One, it's very attractive to only pay if your laptop is stolen, so if you take care of it, you get the peace of mind of the service without

You should put a few how-to docs up there about finding an ISP, etc. Explain it might not always work, that sort of thing. I'm always in favor of more explaining, especially if you want to attract users who aren't technologically savvy, but

It looks good. I would charge for it though. It almost seems strange/shady if you don't charge for it, especially if the recovery data is hosted by you. I suggest not using what a lot of other companies use, which is charging per month. For

Is it free? If it is, you should explain that as part of your marketing somewhere, at least on the register page. I can see myself wanting to write notes when I bookmark an image, but that might go against your plan, since you think your co

A few things: Marketing to existing customers. Is there a new product your existing customers also wish you made? Is there anything else they would pay good money for you to add on? Look for competitors that do what you do and see what else

How do you know people won't want it unless it's built? I understand not doing it if you're offered equity and you think the idea sucks, but if you're just being paid to develop a site, even if its a bad idea, why do people refuse that? Thi

Wait, I thought the hard part was execution? Weren't they just trying to get their ideas executed? Why does it matter if it wasn't unique or first? Ya'll need to make up your mind, is it 90% ideas, or 90% execution? :)

An LLC can have regular employees. But you're right that it might pose problems if you wanted to give regular employees equity.

I should clarify that you and the client should talk about this beforehand and it really matters what you're hired to do. If you're building someone an e-commerce site and you decide to work on your iPhone puzzle game at home, its doubtful

If its on your own time and unrelated to what you're doing, its yours. I think that second sentence merely protects the client if the first sentence fails to do so, its not saying "everything you do is ours." There is no rationale for the c

I'm not sure there is a good one. Generally, other people's photographs are their property, so scraping them would raise a whole bunch of problems if you have another person's photograph that they don't want you to have. Sounds silly, since

They're not higher, they're lower. Developing might be free, but replicating the advantages of the App Store will cost you money. How much? I don't know, but I know getting your app in front of that many customers in the way Apple does and

Its not. Its a reflection of the hype that's currently in place. How much would a Blackberry developer have to pay to get the same exposure? (supposedly 850K TechCrunch RSS subscribers). You just don't see that sort of free promotion direct

Probably not very hard, but if they had done it, they would have all the hype now wouldn't they? RIM has been in the business for years, so why didn't they start an App Store this well marketed a long time ago? This is a simple case of a st

A bigger market share and more capable API doesn't matter if you don't have the capital to make a business out of it. Sure, you can build a Blackberry app, but how would you sell it and get it in front of people without a lot of money spent

Um, or they can just ask if you knew. Not putting it in writing only counts if you're going to back it up with lies in court. Otherwise, if you knew, you knew.

Look through back issues of Inc. They do articles on this sort of thing a lot, and it will give your friend a good idea how other people grow their companies. It sounds like he needs a strategy more than a coach.

You've had someone reply to you, but they seem mistaken about how your product works. Its like a marketing gold mine you've got here. I assume you can use the native app without connecting to the web? Is the web just an added bonus?
