They're called corporate lawyers, but many small firms and individual lawyers do corporate law along with other areas of practice. There are tax issues on what you get to deduct before and after starting a company, but really I think your m

Not a book, but I recommend getting a subscription to Inc. Magazine. At the very least, check out Norm Brodsky's column every week at the bookstore.

Like the author says, even if you don't read the whole book, the last chapter is something you should take the time to read. It was really a great part of the book.

I second that. A whole bunch of people are in the business, from ad agencies to SEO consultants to "marketing firms." I'd keep your skeptical glasses on at all times when looking for someone, as there are a lot of fakes. I'd recommend looki

I think your site would work much better as a blog highlighting other people's usability. I think it would be a great idea to review other people's sites and make comments about them. Don't portray them as low cost or free, just do it. No o

I agree, build ads into your design. I don't think you need to turn them on right away though, you can fill the space with "internal" ads showing off features or other things you want people to take advantage of, like your RSS feed, your Bl

I think the advantage comes from allowing multiple people to play with the files and end up with an image you can quickly email to a client or insert into a document. Plus you don't have to own a Mac to work on interface design.

You're right. I think web apps get a huge benefit from soft launches, beta testing and user feedback. Its just invaluable information to have before you really present yourself. On the other hand, if you're launching the next ValleyWag site

Yeah, if you're polite about it people will understand. I don't think you'll have too much of a problem if you think up solutions before hand. So instead of waiting for it to happen, write down now what you will do, what you will say to peo

Yeah, nice grid. I would make the boxes at the bottom the same size, it seems odd that one is larger than the others. Also, its very grid-like, but that one section of text in the middle is centered. Looks odd.

I think it depends on what your real definition of start-up is. Is it only businesses that can scale and create huge amounts of wealth? Or does it refer to anything someone starts with the intention of becoming profitable and supporting the

I really can't see much of a downside to at least trying your hand at an app. We know the money is there, even for simple apps, so I say go for it. then again, I'm biased :)

Yeah, their lack of concern for profit made them stand out and it makes it really hard to compete. When everyone else was charging for listings, Craigslist came in and took that whole market. Now everyone else has to give it away for free a

I agree with Goladus, some people don't have room to manage time poorly. When you work in a factory it is hours that matter because the results don't vary greatly by the amount of time you work. Sure, extremely long hours will make a differ

Oh, and what's with the legal language? Its very anti-customer. You don't need that there to protect yourself. It just screams "go away."

Yeah, you can allow Google to share your stats, and then you get to see other's stats anonymously based on what Google determines is for sites just like yours. I'm not sure, but it might be aggregated, which makes it somewhat less useful.

But aren't you skeptical? Sure, those infomercials are selling the system, but if you'd bought it, you'd expect the system would explain how to do it, right? I'd expect the book to explain how to do it too. But I found it very conclusory. I

Have you read Robert Ciadini's book? You should, it explains all the tricks marketers use to persuade you to buy something or buy into something. Most successful companies use some form of persuasion to get you to do something. http://en.
