Facebook would fund a Facebook engineer and would therefore have vetted the person in question. Same for other actors, there are ways to support these projects with eg a non-profit organization bankrolled by EU taxes or similar. Imagine if

When is Google, Amazon, Facebook, the DARPA, the EU - ANYONE going to step up to the plate and fund developer time for such obviously critical infrastructure? Why could a single Chinese guy undermine the entire system with so little effort?

Q, K, V are not the same. In self-attention, they are all computed by separate linear transformation of the same input (ie the previous layer’s output). In cross-attention even this is not true, then K and V are computed by linear transform

Generally, the great apes are better adapted to plant diets, humans are better adapted for eating meat. Gorillas eat leaves and pith, and A LOT of it. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2964658/

It isn't, but the kinds of paper referred to make so many assumptions that the conclusions lack external validity for actual deep learning. In other words, they typically don't actually say anything about state-of-the-art deep net

Exactly, CICO seems like a great approach until you realize it means counting calories for the rest of your life. I think keto is the way for me. Eat to satiety, exercise, live life with an even energy level.

That’s a good point, I wanted to make the point that doing the research is also incredibly expensive because it requires some of the smartest people around, and the right background (and what even is that background?)

This kind of research is also incredibly capital intensive. You have to pay some of the smartest people around to work in it.

And the victim just silently accepts their ditziness is local to only the office? Sorry but this is almost surely a creative writing exercise. I normally don't comment on these things but they also normally don't show up on HN.

It's a battle for the control of the device. The ideal setup for the big corpos is that we do not own our devices, but we rent them, and they can then charge arbitrarily for different uses of them. This was what AT&T did with phone

I would love something like this for my smartwatch. My main telco doesn't offer eSIM for smartwatches because they want you to switch to their premium brand. If anyone knows something I'd love to hear it (Sweden)

In computer science, we straddle this divide where the usual way to describe things in scientific literature is using algebraic notation, but the usual way to actually write up a program is to use meaningful variable names. It's not K

People aren't picking between a Ford F-150 or a Tesla where I live, they pick between a normal ICE 5-seater or a Tesla. It's not cherry-picked, it is me-picked, a sample of 1 but a sample nonetheless. You OTOH have fabricated a ch

The car I drive weighs about 1300 kg, the Tesla Model X is about 2400 kg. I was being conservative with 40%. Edit: turns out my car weighs even less. Edit2: asked Google for most common, seems Tesla Model S at around 2100 kg.
