Can someone explain why the courts do these type of minimal fines? Having a cup of coffee on the Bart could land me a $250 fine, which is 2x as much proportional of my personal yearly revenue. This seems more harmful than a cup of coffee.

I imagine a blockchain-based distributed file store that doesn't need a tracker. Or something that the blockchain IS the tracker.

I'm probably going to get downvoted to hell on this; but as a Rubyist who has been working on a Python project, I've been finding pip to be really weak against rubygems/bundler. With RubyGems/Bundler I love the ability t

Sure, it's (a little) tricky to tell if a candy has marijuana in it, especially for a kid. The solution is simple, just don't leave your pot candy laying around for kids!!! If I had kids, had pot candy, and lived in CO, I'd h

I heard this morning on the (semi-conservative FM radio) that this was a national security issue, and that Apple is helping terrorists in not bypassing this. I don't get it- the shooters are dead. How is what is on their phone a matter

"Telling people that a 6 week bootcamp is the same as a 4 year CS degree is absurd and offensive." Absolutely true, and I don't know any that do that. At the same time, I've interviewed many people with CS degrees who

For non-gaming, non-video-editing tasks, I partially see it as just the core tasks aren't changing that much. An operating system isn't doing that much more than it was 5-7 years ago. I'm using my 2011 Macbook Pro for Proto

Sure- you can absolutely figure out who wrote the paper given enough work. Yet, I really do like the idea of first the paper being reviewed on it's own merit/ideas/findings, and then potentially people seeing who was invo

Same here. It was expensive and fraught with issues in making it (including poorly glued ceiling panels when they opened it), but now it seems pretty great. I can get from Somerville to Dorchester or the airport in minutes on 93.

As much as in theory the GLX would benefit me (living in Union Sq/Somerville), I'm also kinda like "shrug, the busses work just fine". The Green Line has always been kinda terrible (too slow, too many stops, too crowded)

How does anyone trust it then? Isn't it by default able to have them alter it then, as they win 51% of the processing power? It seems to miss all the benefit of a blockchain, or I'm missing something?

My proposition would be graduated flight limitations. I cannot see any reason to not fly my drone 100 feet in the air 4.5 miles from the airport.

As someone who enjoys flying drones, I don't mind registration- I just want clarity. Recently I was going out with some friends to the Boston Harbor Islands. I wanted to take a small Parrot AR drone out there, to fly around 25 feet in

You have the privilege of being a dick to a cop when you're white. The moment they claim they were intimidated/frightened, then time and time again we've seen that any use of force becomes justified by police somehow. Just

I wonder if the problem for most of us isn't the money, but just the time. A cheap computer probably doesn't give us any more time/ease than an expensive computer (which we probably already have 1+ of)

I don't think that's the point. For random hookups, people really should be using condoms; STIs are a thing. But for couples in trusting relationships, I don't see why men would be less trustworthy than women. Having an extra
