Our species is at the most interesting point (now + coming few generations) in its evolution I'd think (creation of WMDs, genetic engineering, effecting plant-scale changes, artificial intelligence/life, spacefaring, etc.) - a t

Agree, but I think it excels at it's intended purpose, as a "gradually typed" system where types can be added at the various places, and inferred types that "meet in the middle" will structurally type as intended. I

So the Anova is a combo dry convection and steam oven, correct? (Not microwave) Looks interesting. I was wondering also if you know a model that combined variable inverter (not duty-cycle) microwave output, convection, and steam-sensor. th

As I worked on the device-drivers and devices that could play them (like the Tandy/Memorex VIS lol) I still have a bunch of unopened Medio CD-ROMS. One of these days I'll have to hook up the old chan3 coax to the TV and fire it al

I think TS on the server is a great choice for all the reasons that make TS interesting -- esp. the expressive structural typing system which is not found in the other languages. What is missing is a better runtime that supports true sha

Weird title, as the default modes of Vi and Emacs are diametrically opposed and opinions there tend to run strong.

Reactoring and reuse is a bit of a pain compared to functors or typical OO code in C#, etc., esp. moving from idiomatic F# to to more performant code, when this is needed. For example, I may use a List at first, as it's natural to sta

Go?! I don't think there's even a comparison here -- the .Net ecosystem is huge compared to such a newcomer. I've been looking at .Net libs (for F# and C#) and JVM libs (for Clojure) recently, and I've came across way m

Personally I think a "forward blinker" would be useful, in the middle of a car/bike. Many times at a 4-way stop where all the cars arrive relatively simultaneously, if a car doesn't have any blinkers on, I have to guess

I don't think AI is needed here -- I wrote an Outlook plugin about 15 years ago that used fuzzy diff between messages in the thread that extracted only the new information added by each person and presented it as a message digest or as

This seems pretty cool -- but one issue to me is that (similar to the chasm that exists in low-code app building once the magic doesn't suit you) that if I already have the skills to create a mobile app that integrates tensorflow, I pr

One fun item I'm lucky enough to own is a core memory stack from Dijkstra's Electrologica computer, ca.1958 or so -- very low density obviously. This machine is where the first working Algol compiler was written.

I wrote a Lisp in F# last year, and I started with Fexprs and used them as the basis to write quasiquote and defmacro, which are then used to write things like defun and let: "backtick char ` is expanded to quasiquote by the reader

It amazes me that the stack-entwined implementation with the GIL remained the canonical version this whole time -- I would think that the Stackless version (or similar) would have been the default long-ago. This really should have made it w

I don't get it -- if you're not going to program in Prolog (and have full Prolog operational semantics, custom operator syntax, access to CLP libs, etc.) then why not just backtrack with iterators directly over a logical var abs
