Perhaps -- and if I do, I think you've just underscored my point. If someone who started programming the same decade Unix was invented doesn't want to be his own sysadmin, why would most people?

I don't get all the hate for win10 -- I love *nix from a the pov of a clear, orthogonal internal design (at least from 10k feet) and it doesn't make since to deploy at scale on Win (unless you really need to) -- but why would I ev

Racket platform dev itself dead, or Racket program dev dead? As for the former, I'm on the email distro and it seems pretty active to me.

So, to be clear, you are saying that in this case the grapefruit would increase or decease the effect of the THC? In other words, to increase the effect of the cannabis, is it metabolites that we want to maximze, or the amount of unmetaboli

Given that your eye "wants" to follow the action, it would be cool if the foveal focus moved with the character, no? Then if you really didn't "notice" the de-rezed background, that would be the proof of the pudding

I worked at MS in the early 90's during the time when they wanted to break it up -- I'm convinced that if BillG simply accepted this and approached it in a constructive way, that separate systems and apps companies would have bee

Well, because OO - and if Simula isn't there, then that's where the link would be. Even if Simula did come first, ST is certainly the "OO root" that most people know, so I'm fine with Simula -> ST -> C++ as a

Seems like some tree-roots are missing -- Algol??! PL/(I/M)? B(CPL)? Snobol? APL? Simula? Link between Smalltalk and C++?

My son just happens to be playing Scramble (Defender) on my old Vectrex as we speak! Of course, it comes w/Mine Storm (Asteriods/Space War) built-in. (Though I think it needs some new capacitors, as the vector retrace isn't

Seems like you're losing something here -- ISTM that the goodness of a reified massage is now lost. A message, as a piece of data, can be tested, stored, passed on, etc., while a "call" (the .get()) cannot.

I assume because every process has its own GC that messages are always copied, even on the same node? AFAICT, there is no shared/copy-on-write messages in the BEAM, except for a few cases where you explicitly pass a shared byte buffer

I would love it if every product in this category to be able to stream from the same source and be selectable as stereo (if two speakers), mono-center, mono-left-only and mono-right only -- this way I can by more than one and place them as

I love Typescript -- I just wish there were an alternate runtime (.Net core CLR/DLR or other) that offered shared-memory green and/or native threading for true support for embarrassingly parallel but not vectorized workloads. FWIC

I think the point that's missing is reflective vs. transmitive surfaces -- that brain is used to processing not the latter, but the former -- where reflected light is related to, and less than, ambient light. If we were using hi-res co

If I had long-running servers at home or were using a runtime that didn't run on Windows very naturally, I supposed I'd feel differently - but that's not the case at the moment.

I guess it depends on what you want to spend your time and emotional energy on. I use Win10 as it is "out of the box", and apply all automatic updates. If MS wants my telemetry or whatever, that's okay by me. If I'm in F

I think we missed the boat -- the focus on fancy rendering rather than on the actual data/content set us back years in functionality and helped create free and for-pay walled gardens where actionable data stays server-side and renderin
