I think breaking up the ISPs and media conglomerates would be much more impactful. I can't think of a single market segment where Google and Amazon lack effective competition. Facebook is already bleeding users, and how would you break

You should check out Lazarus. It's basically open source Delphi and cross platform, write once, compile anywhere. http://www.lazarus-ide.org

Qt's licensing can be a problem for certain platforms such as iOS. It is also quite bulky compared to Flutter. File sizes are mostly irrelevant on the desktop these days, but on mobile it still matters

> One problem on Linux is that the native toolkits (Qt and GTK) are just garbage. I think a lot of this stems from the fact that Linux (or BSD for that matter) don't really have a "native" toolkit. Also, I think people ove

I'll take an Electron app on Windows any day over one that has to utilize an X11/POSIX layer to run. In fact I'm not aware of any widely utilized software on Windows that relies on the stack you're advocating for.

Explain to me how an X11/Posix desktop application is better for a Windows user than an Electron one.

I'm not sure that this does encourage native Linux game development. Why bother putting in the porting work for 0.1% of potential users when someone else might do the work for me via Wine/Proton.

I'll second A Tour of C++ 2e. It's a great way to get up to speed on the most important aspects of C++. It's very readable if you're already familiar with C syntax style languages.

Maybe by Android ZuchiniBread we'll be able to use Java 11 on Android. One of the major pain points of Android development is that the vast majority of the API is designed around limitations of Java 6. Yes, I know that you can use mos

The President having veto power over the budget is not the problem, the complete lack of any sort of ability to compromise amongst either party's leadership is. Without veto power Congress could ram through all manner of pork barrel sp

The Android ecosystem is actually in an even worse situation because most people aren't even able to apply security patches on their devices, even if they are technically inclined to do so.

The stupid thing is that these code names sometimes span multiple versions of Android and even API levels making it all even more of a clusterfuck of a platform. My suspicion is that they do this to hide all of the fragmentation and preten

Although it's not a guarantee that it'll stick around, the fact that it's open source greatly increases the probability. GWT is actually still very much alive even though Google abandoned it years ago.

I'm hoping they go with the current VSTS pricing... https://www.visualstudio.com/team-services/pricing/ It's very simple, reasonable, and sane compared to GitHub's.
