I think that's what the grandparent commenter meant. Early startups with large growth opportunity used to be abundant on the stock market. But now the burden is too great, so only larger companies can IPO. I even hear phases like "

Isn't it the case that RISC-V is only open for non-commercial use, and that for commercial products it still has licensing requirements attached to it?

Have some high fidelity ear plugs myself. The hi-fi goes a long way! I wear them in the car, in the bus, on the train, at a loud restaurant (can still hear friends), at concerts, in the datacenter. I never expected them to be so comfortable

There's already practical cryptography to do what you just described called Confidential Transactions. It's not true homomorphic encryption, but it does securely hide the amount transferred on the blockchain while still guaranteei

If we had proper homorphic encryption, we could use regular home user machines for a cloud, airbnb style. You can't do that today because the security risks are completely unmanageable. But that all changes with homomorphic encryption.

Merge request page load times. Sometimes it can take like 5s for a merge request page to load (and then another 5s for the comments), and that's noticeably more frustrating than github's snappy UI. 5s isn't world ending but i

If you want to compete with GitHub for open source projects you are going to need a 'releases' page that's similar (at least in function) to github's. I would like to see that prioritized more, I think it's more imp

I couldn't easily pull up any screenshots, but I've been a video encoder for some years and I can tell you that psy-rd (the x264 option to add film grain) does wonders in terms of grain fidelity. The problem with matching the grai

The most computationally efficient encoding algorithms can do hundreds of frames per second at 720p even on mobile. The price you pay is quality and filesize - it'll be large and look awful.

Depends how good you are with an encoder. It's not compression, the grain does change, but since it's just random anyway, the human eye can't notice so long as it's the same type of grain. Encoders generally have a few o

I would definitely argue that blockchain is closer to the arpanet days than it is to the world wide web days. This stuff is so early. A lot of the really enabling infrastructure doesn't exist, and won't exist for years. Most build
