I have a pixel, it's 5 inches and it feels absolutely enormous compared to the SE. I don't like it at all and yet it's classified as "small" today. Not a fan at all, it's just too big for me. I'm 6'1&

Some indexes have filters that prevent really awful companies from being included. For example, I don't think Snapchat was allowed into the S&P 500 because the stock was so crappy.

If you close your eyes listening comprehension goes way up. I top out around 2x if I have to look but with my eyes closed I can get full comprehension at 3x+ If it's a technical talk or something I'll still pause often too reflect

Yeah the real issue is the choice. If there were 5 or 10 reasonable alternatives, this kind of thing wouldn't bother me at all. But if the options are "obey Google or fail", suddenly it's a big problem.

I wouldn't assume it comes from an ethical origin. It's more about killing competition. As soon as the competition is dead they'll be talking about how non-viable $21/hr is. Also, a high minimum wage for drivers really b

There utility of disposable income is perhaps not linear. But I can tell you I enjoyed my second raise a lot more than my first. My first raise gave me just enough to start saving money over time, no room for quality of life improvements. M

At some point this is less of a steam issue and more of a Windows issue. An OS shouldn't allow applications to compromise eachother. Steam should maybe be liable if they are actively thwarting disclosure that would protect users but th

Eh that one is on you I think. How long did you wait? If we have 5 researchers report the same vulnerability in 30 days we're going to count it as duplicate and still expect to have a full 60-90 days from the first report to deploy a f

No need for commit reveal, just do a relative offset for picking the rng. So after you place a bet, 6 blocks later is the block that decides if you succeed or fail. You can use simple techniques like this to make most use cases secure.

You can solve this problem by picking a specific block height, and not confirming the result until it has at least 6 confirmations.

A block proposer has a small probability of being able to re-roll the random number a single time, and an exponentially lower probability of getting a second or third chance. And each attempted manipulation costs a lot of money. Can easily

The effect of this can be minimized by pre-comitting to which block will be used for entropy. Then antpool has a 10% chance of mining the relevant block, a (.1*.5=0.05) 5% chance of mining an unwanted bit and discarding it, and then from th

Doesn't the Bitcoin blockchain serve as a strong, independent, difficult to manipulate source of entropy that gets published every 10 minutes on average? Why not just use that?

We've all become too PC and the stains of that culture are bursting out the sides in unexpected and colorful ways. It's oppressive to be PC and we haven't acknowledged that side of it well enough. (Oppressive to the person co
