Every time I read an article like this on HN, I can't help but wonder, is anyone actually using a Linux/FreeBSD machine at their workplace? It seems these posts are all about personal machines. I'd love to use Linux professio

But a phone number isn't supposed to be secret, it's supposed to be given to people to contact them. I don't see the nefarious use here. Can they determine I'm a Signal user? Sure, but they can get that from IP address,

They're working on usernames, but what's the privacy concern around using your phone number? Is it to be pseudononymous? My use case for Signal is friends and family, and it was easy to get everyone onboard because we all have eac

If we're strictly comparing Linux and Windows, Linux would have issues with most software (where it only runs in Proton) and the developer of some of the biggest games in the industry (Warcraft, Overwatch, Age of Empires, Wolfenstein,

Is it too little, too late? Microsoft now owns a lot of the biggest game franchises through the Activision and Bethesda acquisitions, and I wouldn't be surprised if they actively block Proton support by using UWP or Windows-specific an

They claim no changes and they intend to remain a cross-platform studio. So I wonder if this ties into Sony's upcoming PS Now replacement gaming subscription service, you get Destiny content while your PS sub is active.

I'm a Bose QC-35 II convert. Slide forward on the power button and it'll switch the paired device. Also excellent sound quality and ridiculous battery life.

I think of it as more 'late stage early adopter' compared to a decade ago with the Leaf. When talking to in-laws about our car we need to bring up "long trips are fine, we just need to stop at a Walmart in New London for 45 m

I leased my first EV this past summer, a VW id4, and had a 240v/30A charger installed at home. I live in the Boston metro area. It's really nice the majority of the time - I never need to go on a gas run, acceleration is _signific

I don’t understand the comparison you’re trying to make. There’s no viable alternative to a computer that uses substantially less power. The alternative is there for crypto, and it’s called fiat currency.

My big issue with the Netflix model is that I'm subscribing to a content smorgasbord where the only thing they have in common is the distributor. With Disney+ at least I know I'm getting specific brands (Marvel, Pixar, etc).
