Seriously go and tell these stupid memes someplace else. It's not funny, witty or insightful. It's just stupid.

Really ? I expected the incredibly dumb "Apple patented round corners" meme from somewhere like Engadget not HN.

Well I guess you are lucky then because Linode has had massive downtimes in their London and Dallas data centres in the last few days and when I was a customer their Fremont data centre went down all the time. http://status.linode.com Her

Can you please provide us with the link to your apps ? If Apple Legal are involved then 99% of the time it is due to a third party filing a lawsuit against Apple because of something you've done e.g. violate trademarks. So you why do you th

Simple. Because if you don't love what you've spent all the blood, sweat and tears building then what is the point of it all ? And you know what is worse than no feedback. Bad feedback that crushes morale and energy that could've been avoid

Actually AFAIK MySQL supports master-master and the Cluster version supports autosharding.

Even though Redis is moving from being a Memcached competitor to being more of a Cassandra competitor and MySQL is used by many of the world's largest websites (often as a glorified key-value store) they are odd choices. Would anyone really

Firstly that mode is completely valid for many use cases e.g. logging, metrics. Secondly all the drivers handle this behaviour behind the scenes for you. Thirdly it is trivial to set the write concern to specify how many instances of the re

Sorry but what you are suggesting is crazy. MongoDB has a completely different data model to PostgreSQL. You can't just build your app around one approach and then trivially move to another. Pick the database for the data model not the othe

Exactly ALL databases will have issues. Which is why I suggested MySQL. Every issue has either been solved online or worked around in Percona, Facebook or Twitter's implementation. There are huge benefits that come from being the most widel

You must be joking if you think that count as 'setting up' a database also I just set up 4 servers: apt-get install mysql-server redis riak-server mongo-10gen-server

Easy of setup matters. Because unless you are using a hosted database then you will be managing and maintaing that database day to day. Which is why I would never recommend PostgreSQL for startups. It is far, far too convoluted for many of

I don't understand your point. You could use replication (master/slave) with 2 servers and you don't have to use sharding for anything. How is MongoDB not the same as every other database ? If anything MongoDB is by far the easiest database

Redis has no clustering (yet) so is best used when your data is transient and you are able to repopulate.

This idea that MongoDB is dangerous is just crazy and seems to often come from the same people who endlessly tout PostgreSQL as the world's most perfect database. The fact is that very large companies are using MongoDB in production environ

Apple does NOT have a patent on rectangles or rounded corners. And there is no evidence that Apple's image hasn't been tarnished at all in the eyes of the general public. I see no reason that the iPhone 5 and iPad Mini will again be record

It's closer to the second one. The implementation. It's just that in some cases it can be difficult nee impossible to implement it any other way. I would recommend reading some patents. Most are far more specific than you realise.
