If I'm in the office and go to a meeting room I have to bring at least one adapter to be a able to project on a screen. It's awkward in practice.

The note was for me the pinnacle of phones. Large display, textured back so it wasn't slippery, and no back to get cracked, metal frame around the screen, sd card, exceptionally easily replaced battery (the back popped off easily) , gr

Thanks for the correction, I was looking at the 286, not the 4004! Not sure how I managed to get the wrong chip... Though someone mentioned the 286 in a comment below, so I guess I muddled that in.

Wifh 134k transistors and 49mm2, that's 365um2 per transitor. The N3 node from TSMC is quoted as ~300Mtr/mm2, so I believe 365um2 is 109k transtors, so I guess it means just under one 4004 could fit in the area of a single 1982 tr

How is interactive annotation handled? The zoom annotation let's amy meeting attendee annotate the presenters screen.

Yes, we're transition firm zoom to teams, and as we're engineers, I'll sorely miss the screen annotation feature which works so well. Teams just added active anntoation and it totally sucks, the presenter can't interact

What's always blown me away is that chips are built up in layers. These layers are built up by lithography, which involves depositing an extremely thin sheet of material and then etching out the pattern for wires, etc. The etching requ

PYNQ is an interesting project. It blends python / jupyter notebooks running on the embedded processor in the FPGA ps with any custom hardware you design for the FPGA pl (programmable logic). You can generate the hardware logic by writ

For a power user, vivado is streets ahead of the open source alternatives. The integrated IDE makes working with and debugging performance issues helpful as you can cross probe between placement, elaborate RTL, timing reports all the way b

As a hardware engineer I think the vivado toolchain is brilliant, and way way better than the toolchians I have to put up with in ASIC design. The sad fact is low level HW design is very difficult, and making tooling help simplify this imme

Wow. I cannot fathom how it can work this well, though I think the validation is incorrect, the first assert shoukd check for z and not 0. Still, it's scary to be honest.

I switched from windows/dell to a 2019 16inch MBP Intel for work as I wanted everything MBPs promised, especially battery life. I was very dissapointed that I get about 2 hours on battery, but I suspect its mostly due to the MS office

I get the point, but maybe that looking desperate puts people off, so being more relaxed could help. I recall being dismay that when single no one showed interest, while in a relationship women seems to ask me out (still rarely, but not 0).

The matlab licencing will be their downfall. Its the only licence we have in work that is per seat vs being token (floating) based, due to the cost of a floating license. So instead of having a tool any of our engineers can use, we have it

The main issue is not who owned it, but the fact a pll (or similar) was needed to create a local clock locked to dqs, but dqs from the sender would dissappear for an unknown number of cycles depending on the rx vs TX schedule. So that local

The DRAM signaling is very strange, I worked briefly on a hardware DDR controller and the timing reference was over pins called dqs. These pins sent a signal to represent the bit transition so they could be safely captured by the receiver.

True, but is it reasonable to assume the same key would be used for long enough on a go en operation to allow averaging to help? The mitigation only needs to work practically, not in a worst case theoretical situation.

You can buy LFP cells for about 2k for 10kwh, so this is 5wh/$, the use case is for a diy alternative to powerwall, but long story short, I'm sure Ford pay less for their batteries.

I'm not worried about the storage, but (almost) forced to run an OS is a bit much. I just want to run it on the same machine as other services and the VM is to me a clunky way to do that. Still overall like HA though.
