For a work VR headset to work I think you need a couple of things. One is that it needs to be comfortable enough to wear for long periods of time. I usually get quite warm when wearing one. You also often end up with impressions on your fac

Usually std::unique_ptr or in a container like std::vector. Being too afraid of std::shared_ptr can lead to using references or raw pointers in the wrong places. That way leads to the usual memory safety issues.

The author claims that making better use of the cache hierarchy and programming in a data oriented way will improve perceived performance for users. This isn't where we should start though. Much of the time bad performance comes from e

DRY is much more than just not copying code verbatim. It's also about not defining the same logic or concepts in multiple places. This duplication can be a real problem since it introduces a very strong, hidden coupling between the dup

Is there really any challenge in making a roller coaster that kills its riders? Seems like the space of lethal coasters would be larger than for non-lethal ones. Also, is the short amount of time with hypoxia really enough to kill someone?

Take three somewhat flat stones to start out. Alternate rubbing the surfaces together in a random fashion. As you continue the high spots of the stones will be ground down and the surfaces will become flatter and flatter. In the end you can

Since the input fits in one chunk it’s hard to follow how it would work for larger inputs. The “chunk loop” is only executed for one iteration so it requires careful reading to see how the state gets form one iteration to the next. (Hint: i

Seems like n=3 really helps to get good results. With n=2 it was a bit hard to see that it actually followed the pattern.

It was shutdown because it isn’t needed anymore. The review times are usually short and the quality of crowdsourced data is lower because of this. https://daveverwer.com/blog/saying-goodbye-to-app-review-tim...

The Hawking radiation for a black hole with this mass would be really small. It actually decreases with added mass. So, this observation does not say anything about Hawking radiation.

This is correct, melting sea ice does not lead to a rise in sea level. It’s the melting of glaciers and ice sheets (on Greenland for example) that cause the sea level to rise.

I've been biking to work for a bit more than two years now. Same distance to work and not even any close calls with cars. I do ride quite carefully though and make very sure that they see me and stop before I ride out in front of one.

This is an absurd situation, having a military minder that tells you what you can and can't say in a production. It is hard to avoid some kind of interference if you want to borrow military equipment though. There is always some standa

About this cutoff. I guess that it is an analogue to the phase transition we see in for example the Ising model (this example was given in the article). This transition is due to a change in temperature, i. e. the chance of flipping a spin

Now, I'm not a proponent of leap seconds. But I'm a bit curious to where the 7.389 m comes from? The earth rotates about 12 km along the equator in 26 s. Is the error of ~7 m for determining your position north-south wise? East-we
