You are wrong that by stating that if we don't click on ads or use adblockers we are costing money to Google. Even if you don't use the ads or if simply ignore them, you still represent a group of interests that can be used to fee

Because it works for you, it doesn't mean it works for everyone else. Of all Google's services I don't care about: - Google Shopping, I never saw a reason to use it and I never did, I prefer to use local shops or Amazon - Goo

But in order to make the advertising business very profitable (this is, in order to give a reason for other businesses to use Google Ads to advertise themselves), Google needs to know all about you: who you are, where you are, what you like

Well, if you saw something happening and you tell the police that you didn't see anything happening, isn't that obstruction of justice? We could apply the same thing to your smartphone: if you were taking pictures of some view and

I think it is acceptable to wait for a search warrant to search someone's house, whatever that person was doing there, chances are that there will be traces of it even if the person tried to destroy evidence (blood residues, fingerprin

I see a lot of people in this thread pulling the trigger of this "being an invasion of privacy". While this is true, I can't help but to feel that the Hacker News crowd tends of see only one side of this issue. They are not a

It would be illegal after the announcement that they would stop buying Imagination's GPUs. Imagination's value tanked after, they wouldn't be allowed to buy it.

You are probably mixing RTL design with Place and Route, those are two completely different things. You can design and simulate without your FPGA, most of the tools allow for simulation without calling a GUI. It will be not different than c

The problem with programmers trying to design hardware is that when they see code, they think of instructions. If you start shifting your mindset to actual hardware constructions, like flip-flops and combinational logic, the hardware langua

Tooling is actually okay, it seems archaic because with a FPGA you are actually designing the very fundamentals of computing. There is no hand holding there. It would be the equivalent of a newbie programmer looking at GCC and saying: "

People like to compare RISC-V to Linux, which I think it is just wrong. Linux is something that you can download from kernel.org, compile it and bring it up over night. It's a package with a bunch of scripts that compiles a working ker

People are so worried in moving buttons around and making things blue while calling it a redesign and here I am, just wishing for native horizontal tree style tabs in Firefox.

Pulp seems to be just a microcontroller, not a modern CPU. It is a good effort but you wouldn't be using it on a normal computer.

I'm not saying that RISC-V is an hobby project, I'm just saying that hardware development is nowhere comparable to software development. You need much more support and verification while developing hardware then developing softwar

I am aware that they exist but it's not like companies are going to actively invest in devices for the end consumer purely based on RISC-V.

The tone of your comment is very unfortunate taking into account the content of it. The second like you showed is just a simple FPGA implementation, you can't really use for ASIC designs. The first one is a completely different impleme

You are talking like you could download RISC-V from the internet and send it to the foundry for mass production without additional costs or effort. RISC-V is just a document, is not an implementation. There are many costs involved into desi

RISC-V is thrown around like if it's an already working CPU but it is not. It is just a document describing an ISA, you can't compare it to Linux, it's a completely different thing. There are a lot of costs in implementing an

I see on this thread a lot of people getting blind-folded by the "open-source" term attached to the headline of this article. First of all RISC-V can mean more than one thing: it can refer to the architecture, which is in fact ope

Aside from the lack of security from the 2G networks, not to mention the worse quality call, it is very likely that 2G will be phase out during the next decade in many countries. This will render the phone utterly useless.
