Did a Firebase team member already comment on this? In a few hours Google will present some new Firebase features at io17, and I would expect them to avoid bad press now as much as possible...

Really like the fact that deepstreamhub doesn't have a strong vendor lock-in like Firebase. I feel like it would ease many developers minds if they offered some sort of open source version, if only for the sake of being able to change

This. I really feel like egress traffic costs is the most overlooked issue with popular cloud services like AWS or Google Cloud. Charging 9 or 12 cents for a mere GB of regular traffic is just insane, keeping in mind that even most CDNs are

I am wondering whether the prices will go up if the Highwinds acquisition is finalized. But true, generally speaking all CDNs are relatively similar.

Very good points! However I feel like if you speed the hireing process up too much many candidates will walk home without the impression of having to achieved something bigger. Shure, you should not waste too much time, but greater upfront

Sorry for the late reply. Shure, it is hard to develop a good pricing model, but if your approach is serious you try to figure it out pre-launch, so that a potential customer does NOT have to think about how much he would like to pay for th

I think the software itself is actually really well done, however I hate the fact that the pricing always HAS to be 'Contact sales'. Why is it so hard to have transparent pricing? Just say what you offer and tell us how much you

The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon is actually among the strongest MacBook competitors. It has a really strong i7 provessor, 512GB SSD and 8 GB of ram. All of this in a light carbon unibody enclosure, and at 1499 (without OS- saves Windows 10 li

How come all that complaining and rambling about the missing upgrades for the iMac or Mac mini? I really think that Apple did a great job at evolutionally improving the MacBook Pro under the hood, and the TouchBar seems to be a really usefu

Apart from the product itself, what has been your experience with Firebase along the way and what were the main decision drivers towards Firebase?

I am currently using the Hetzner SX131 in RAID 1 and http://minio.io . For about 200€ you get (2x) 30 TB and 50 TB traffic included. Thats about 0.007€ per GB with "free" traffic.

I think there is really no doubt that the storage prices itself ( for all types) are pretty amazing. But let's face it: traffic costs are the huge elephant in the room. By charging 12ct and more per GB, the traffic costs easily become

I think it is pretty interesting to see that the authors (Wolfram Hempel) company, deepstreamhub, does have a businessmodel not far away from RethinkDBs. Both are based on paid consulting/support and try to monetize their open source s

It is simply not true that caddy is JUST a collection of Go libraries, since parts of it like the Caddyfile concept are developed by Matt Holt, the (main) dev behind Caddy. Apart from that I would definetly say that Caddy is far easier to u

Actually I did the opposite, since Firebase comes with a huge vendor lock-in. For smaller projects Firebase however may be a good fit, the Flame plan provides good value for 25 bucks a month. If your product needs scale up to the Blaze plan

For me the compute pricing isn't the main issue. The cutthroat bandwith prices from 9 to 18 cents per GB are the main cost drivers and should be at least mentioned in a blog post about price reduction.
