I think it is pretty interesting to see that the authors (Wolfram Hempel) company, deepstreamhub, does have a businessmodel not far away from RethinkDBs. Both are based on paid consulting/support and try to monetize their open source software (RethinkDB and Horizon on one hand, deepstream.io on the other) through hosted versions, the Horizon Cloud (beta) and the yet to be released deepstreamhub.com. I really hope this works out for deepstream.io, maybe the focus on PaaS makes the difference.
