TLDR yes. My current config is vanilla emacs, it’s very minimal. It uses boon for modal editing. I’ve delved into the boon elisp code enough to patch it so that it has a somewhat functional way to switch between Dvorak modal editing and Qwe

Do you have a favorite software that you just love? I'm also curious how you decide to self host vs host on cloud. Is it purely for public facing vs private stuff or is it different? Also, what are the majority of your costs? Do you ha

Ahhh, from the alternate universe where I need to get a stable IP for my server without using Tailscale. So you just run a 2nd DHCP server, all clients broadcast to every device to find an IP address. In order for the client to choose your

FWIW, BitWarden syncs your passwords locally. The only time you would run into issues is if you need to access using a new device, or a new password that you haven't synced (ex signed up today but haven't used the BitWarden app).

I just run pi-hole and Tailscale for now. Tailscale modifies the DNS config on every device, and lets you specify the pi-hole server as the primary DNS server on the tailscale.com admin console. Much more convenient than figuring out DNS co

Another way to make microtonal music is to use non 12TET piano temperament. For ex Mozart used meantone to create beautiful dissonance as well as nicer sounding harmonies. (Mozart didn’t use 12TET) https://youtu.be/lzsEdK48C

Isn’t this just git reset —soft HEAD~1? Put my stuff from the last commit back into working directory? Very unintuitive (soft?) and I’ve just memorized this for the past 10 years.

Ok. As per my above comment, it should be possible to filter out the analytics/sentry via DNS using pi hole. In theory, you'd just have to set up your Plex machine to use pi hole DNS ad blocking, and ensure that the pi hole domain

Does this require any special set up? I’m asking out of laziness.. my local server has pi hole set up, and the other devices use that for DNS thru Tailscale, but I’m not sure what gets blocked for stuff running on the server. I recall some

It’s an experimental process. You can just try out all things people do for their purpose in life. You will intuitively know whether it’s working or not, when to move on, and what to try next. There’s no other way.

Imagine FB can report that its ads are driving 60% of sales at a lower ROI than other channels. That’s a great incentive for companies to spend more on FB. Due to the iOS privacy consent form, FB can’t provide these kinds of reports anymore

Have you used TypeScript? Not only is it better type system than Kotlin, it has great IDE support in VSCode, AND there’s a language server so you can get IDE support in Emacs/vim.
