Unfortunately, also AzureAD and Azure Resource Manager show impacts.. This is pretty substantial impact. South Central Us might have been the specific location, but the impact is causing headache for just about everyone.

okay i had never heard of the fingernail thing. that sounds awful. I wonder if later designs helped? My immediate thought is: fill those finger spaces with clay like material -- to spread the load across the whole surface of the finger, not

i tend to agree: anycasting stateful services is always a gamble.. however, i do think including ttl in the ecmp hashing alg is prone to failure, and is probably a poor default.

I did. Here is the money quote: Firstly, it is not clear that there will be an Oracle JDK that is $free to download. Despite my best attempts, I could not get 100% clarity on this point, but see also this tweet.

Find that in writing. Everything I read says jdk 8 is the last free Oracle jdk.

what worries me most is the muscle memory of developers downloading Oracle jdk from oracle. If Oracle keeps is dark patterns, thousands of developers will be using the commercial tool and on the hook for license fees.

I don't know about that. Measuring ad impact is extremely valuable. What is interesting to me is the obvious bias of being the seller of ads as well as the impact measurement provider.. fox guarding the henhouse and all

I am curious though, what is the down side to the consumer for this kind of analytics?

not even remotely the same league.. I've never once heard of cash analytics for spend habits the same I have seen for cardholder/loyalty programs.

Out of all the other possible parties that could have attempted this? Yup, I'd say I trust them the most.

Same here.. more LOC spent making silly menu than obfuscation (which does very little?). I’d be absolutely shocked if modern AV did not thwart this.

I have personally witnessed doctors order surgically implanted feeding tubes (aka gtube) for literally no sound reasoning other than “just incase”. I would not put it past an overworked, egotistical doc who spent all of 15minutes involved i

Zero PII. On occasion there are loyalty programs and IDs but there is no link back to the consumer. Companies like IRI and Nielsen recruit their own panelists and build models of the consumer that they then project into census style data.

I ended up replacing my home router last weekend. Had the age old decision: openwrt, or dd-wrt? I'm still not convinced that openwrt/lede does a good job explaining why it's a better choice. I went back to dd-wrt, but mostly

Have you ever old software to an enterprise customer? Making your product look special by offering a bazillion features they will never use is surprisingly successful.

I think that’s quite an exaggeration - there are quite a few DNS providers who can do intelligent DNS LB for you and don’t care what your backend is (gcp/AWS/azure/onprem). Won’t even cost you a million bucks.

I would suspect Stallman would reject that as well - library keeps track of what you have rented out, and requires proof of residency to get a library card. Sounds like exactly the same arrangement (except my property taxes foot the bill).

What is messed up is if the firm doesn't have sufficient visibility/logging, they can claim "no evidence" the data was accessed (purely because they Had their eyes closed). IMHO that is negligent - but sadly the various

This is similar to Azure activity logs - in that they do not provide you log access to "read" actions.. only write/delete ones. However, Azure actually DOES keep those read ops logged. Though I guess, it's not similar in

I can one up that. I had corrupt HTTP payloads with what looked like boot loader data being inserted ! I tracked it back to VMWare host with a physical NIC driver that was reading past the buffer, and picking up the bootloader from memory.
