Although it isn't perfect, I put a lot of effort into the docs for my game development framework at https://domeengine.com . Make sure each document/page has a clear audience, and it's clear to the reader what that

Programming in C requires you to take proper responsibility for what you write, but also allows for great power in return. I've been working on a reasonably large (and cross platform) project in C ( https://domeengine.com ) f

I'm working on DOME, a game development framework for making games with Wren: https://domeengine.com It was featured on HN last weekend: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=22200739 We've even got a g

Everyone's support has been fantastic. I've now scheduled a gamejam in March to give people an opportunity to try out the framework: https://itch.io/jam/domejam

Thank you very much for your insights. Love2D and DOME do similar things for their languages, but I think there's still some key differences in our design sensibility and mission. My hope is that DOME provides a set of sane defaults fo

I've not run into too many, you just have to be careful around re-entrancy from Wren->C->Wren, and slot allocation in foreign constructors. There's some big stuff in the pipeline, so I'm sure it'll be enhanced soon

It'll be a while, but I think the next step is a move towards web. I've built it to run in browsers before, but that was a while ago. Because DOME sits on top of SDL2, porting to other platforms shouldn't be too difficult in

Yep, of course! TIC-80 is very well done, but it's a more constrained system (intentionally so). DOME was meant to be the foundation for larger projects :)

DOME is partially inspired by Love2D, although I've tried to approach things a bit differently. Love2D seems to expose a lot of SDL's underlying functions and concepts, whereas DOME aims to abstract a lot of that away.

I plan to, now things have stabilised. I didn't have a lot of personal reach to get people's attention. Maybe now though...?

Thank you for trying it! I hadn't tested with the WSL, so I'm relieved it worked there as well. I put a lot of work into making it build from scratch easily. I started this project because I had been making small games with the PI

That's very strange. What phone do you use? It's built from a template, so I wouldn't expect many problems.

Thank you for the kind observation! I'm hoping to improve the visuals, as more games get made with it :)

I keep a TODO list in Google Keep, and I am forever shuffling entries around as priorities change. For some projects, the issues on github also suffice to keep track of things to do.

It is beautiful, but it's a barrier also. I don't think you should be barred from learning to code because you don't speak a language which uses the Latin/ASCII character set.

Games aren't just simple software. All the non-code assets (graphics, music, writing) take just as much, if not more, time and money to produce. The amount of work to produce software generally hasn't changed much in the past coup

The risk of overcomplicating. You can put a lot of effort into detailed game AI which just makes for a hugely unfun experience. Something simple or predictable often leads to be better gameplay.

I love this system. I've had some pretty poor experiences with custom orders when dealing with an employee. The kiosks make the anxiety of ordering much more tolerable, as I can specify precisely what I want, rather than worrying about

The same was true of the author's previous book, Game Programming Patterns, which is now complete and fully published.

It also adds a couple of convenience language features and a simplified API, which is why it appears "BASIC-like".
