When you say "If you're terminal is awesome, you can ⌘-click on the links to open them in a browser.", what kind of awesome do I need? I'm running plain old terminal on OS X. (oh, and not to be picky, but that should be "your", not "you're"

You're right, I completely forgot the digital delivery fee. It's, if I remember correctly, $0.15 per megabyte, rather than a flat $0.35. So this can be significant for books with lots of images.

Unless I'm talking about Erlang, my answer is almost going to be "I really miss Erlang's pattern matching". (I know it's not exclusive to Erlang, but that's where I learned it). My dream language right now would be something with the expres

But you also have to ask the following question: Would it have been more expensive to write it in Javascript in 2007 (with the same or close-to-the-same user experience) than to write it in Flex in 2007 and rewrite it in Javascript now. My

One of the things I'm looking forward to is, in a few years, handing my worn copy of the Harper Hall series to my daughter and introducing her to the world of Pern. I think I got my copy when the Science Fiction book club sent it to me beca

Is there an non-iTunes equivalent to iTunes' Genius? Most of my music listening tends to be of the "I feel like listening to song X and a bunch more like it" and Genius is perfect for that. If I could get that in a console app, I'd switch i

The one that said something about "type the red moving characters" never worked for me. The spinner just sat there for > 30 seconds before I gave up. (Chrome on OS X with Flash installed, if that makes a difference)

A lot of Canadian companies are unable to use S3 (or EC2) due to the Patriot Act. Sure, they can get around this by using European buckets, but that kind of sucks for latency. I can easily imagine setting up a company using this software wi

A Masters Degree, in my opinion, is something you take to learn . It's about delving deeply into an area you want to learn more about. If you're in the program purely to pick up skills that you need in an average programming job, then you'

Back when this article was written, you were using these methods about every 10 lines of code or so. If they weren't embedded in your memory, you were probably lying about how much Javascript you had written or were really bad at it.

Fun! I immediately nerd-sniped myself and started playing with factorials. Turns out it only goes up to 170!. 170! gives you a number (170 ! = 7.25741562 × 10306). 171! searches for 171 in documents. Still fun, and pretty darn fast, too.
