A name change is in order due to the fact that Fedex owns the Kinko's trademark for email service.

Almost no one uses RSS and it's bad for business. Regarding usage, we have 60k+ newsletter subscribers and maybe a few hundred RSS readers. Regarding business, I can't converse with you directly over RSS, so it has almost no busi

Watching these answers stream in on the spreadsheet really makes me think of what a realtime reddit or stack exchange could look like. Adding live interaction from observers (likes, comment streams, etc).

They pay corp tax on the profit they earn in their UK's operations. Just like every other company with operations in the UK. What percentage of your revenue do you pay in corporate taxes? None! You only pay a percentage of profit. (ext

Some of what Benny does is based on Boris Shektman's teaching at the US Foreign Services Language Institute. It's extremely pragmatic (borderline cheating) At time, really steamrolls the conversation with a set of trick and tactic

That's populist propaganda. Businesses are taxed on profit, not revenue. Even if they were 100% based in the UK, they'd still probably pay very low corporate taxes (if any) due to the thin margin. They actually do pay an enormous

I love this because it works on getting kids into the wonder and power of coding before they hit the CS meat grinder later on. Falling in love with it and getting some experience before they hit more rigorous learning down the road. It wil

A lot of the world doesn't subscribe to the individual-is-always-paramount view. This situation sucks, but helping the person starts with understanding the problem.

The EU VAT rules extend to most digital products and services for all companies anywhere in the world. Yeah.

The EU tax on digital sales really is hard to understand and comply with as a small developer. We're also thinking of blocking EU sales until we are big enough to afford to comply. How are people dealing with this?

I'm not sure if you caught the other post, but the discounted rate is the price we charged for a few years. Only after revising it UP did we hit a new higher plateau on revenues. Then discounting it these two times in a "sale&qu

No apologies, it's good advice! Anyway, for 2013, 51% of unit sales have come from 2 discount offer email events this year. The discount IS the old price we had for years, so it's not that this price is somehow magic on its own.

Thanks! We have 5 years of sales on this mature product and know the space well. It surprised us that the discount offers were effective since we had a handle on when people buy after first visiting, etc. The push made by the discount offe

Fair questions! increased unit sales and we're up over 20% in total revenue for the same period last year. We did our first back in March where we were actually declining year over year for this product. So we're confident to say

I would think the upsell happens in email before, during the shopping experience, or completely after the online checkout is done, not during the checkout process. Upsell during checkout is kind of a grocery store concept. At least those is

"Life form" subtilely connotes alien life, doesn't it? Especially when you put it in a sentence with NASA and Spacecraft. When they discover actual life on Mars and Europa, it's probably going to have a lot less impact

Right, the incentive is to reject the highest possible number of applicants. The system is built around reducing friction for applying while rejecting almost all of those people as cheaply and easily as possible. I wouldn't be surprise

Yeah, it makes it hard for those of us with a lot of audio and video to deal with. We still need to be on Amazon for those assets, though would very much prefer to have them available through a locally mounted filesystem on our Digital Ocea

Thirded! This is a better implementation for a framework. CBGV as-is would be better as an add-on app. This is a great example why framework projects could benefit from being a bit more democratic. Most people seem to be pulling their hair

My initial thought is that insect wings don't rotate, and so can't destroy themselves so easily. Cheap, powerful rotational motors comes with the risk of potential for self destruction. Flapping at that scale is a very hard proble
