The more interesting thing here is how it interfaces with the thermostat and makes both better as a result. Turning off the furnace when the carbon monoxide alarm is triggered is worth it by itself. For those of us living in snowy climate

I can only speak for myself. I honestly have no interest in their educational background, only in what they've done, how they think and what they can do for my startup. A CS degree is interesting but doesn't tell me they can code.

I asked this in the other Show HN thread. Specifically curious about what class of leads you are focused on -- Just B2B or can it work for say a $100 digital product? Any specific verticals being targeted?

This is very interesting! I had one question -- I couldn't figure out what types of leads you are capable of generating. Is it primarily for B2B enterprise leads of can it scale down to $100 digital products? Any verticals you're

Those are some very absolute statements. The blinding passionate belief part is really a myth. You just need to be hard working, committed, and effective. All obstacles can be overcome by focus and reason, not religion or belief. You don&#

I believe it comes down to personality and maturity. My own experience is with solo success and a few projects with co-founders dying in early prototyping stage. In short, some of the things people benefit from externally from a co-founder,

I'm not sure of the others, but it should work fine in OpenVPN. The configuration for it documented, if a little bit of work to get going. I've been using it for many years, having switched from Hamachi back in 2007 or so.

One factor is that the advent of the 401k in the US broke the contract a while ago. Retirement isn't bound to any one company anymore. This is the first generation to enter the workforce with bosses that never experienced what its like

Too true and common. A friend of mine in sales taught me to make sure you reach out to everyone who matters to you in some fashion on a regular schedule. To put it on your calendar. I never gave it much thought outside business, but it'

I do something like this with a script called "boss.py'. It regex matches time patterns from a dict and yells out the value by calling the mac 'say' command. I have it configured to yell at me to focus every 5 minutes an

I'm reluctant to give harder details since I am in what could be a "passive income" niche, but I will try. We originally set our monthly prices in line with comparably similar produces - about $20/mo, with discounts to

Interesting point against recurring revenue for some products: We increased overall sales by charging a fixed price for permanent access vs. recurring billing. The lifetime value of the customer turned out to be less in the recurring model.

Within a subset of the problem, this is a pretty accurate point, actually. I won't argue it! The reason I feel it's right in a larger sense is in protest of not having a reasonable way to consume the content for this guy. He'

This is actually illegal. The DCMA and perhaps some earlier electronic circumvention laws make this act a very real breach of US law. Publicly stating it is a bit dangerous and could cost the author if the NFL decided to pursue a case. How

Limor (and the company she built) has been producing microcontroller and Arduino kits & boards like this for a long time. Digispark reflects a lot of her original work. This is a good thing!

I definitely see your point! It seems to be designed to address part of it, however. Raising $500k first would seem to suggest the business has merit on its own. I'm sure it's more nuanced than that in practice, though...

You can try to avoid it grammatically. @person is looking for help with PHP. In return, @person can help with CSS. I like this because it means each sentence is meaningful out of context and can be separately indexed, searched, etc.

As a solo technical founder , I more or less agree with these points. I can color them a little bit from my own experience. 1. Add in maturity. Building a product and selling it is hard. You can be harder, though. this may get easier as y

What would fairness have to do with the success of a startup? Put two founders on stage at a conference and the audience won't be fair either. Extend that to other events, web video, TV appearances and other audio/video media. He&
