Thanks but no thanks. Nothing against Teslas, but the issue is that reality is far from the vision proposed by proponents of EVs including governments and entrepreneurs. EVs are not reliable for long journeys. Besides, I don't like v

I have now rented two electric vehicles this past year, both for semi-long distance trips. The first was a Kia from SF to Sacramento, and back a few days later, thinking this was California and it should be fine. I tried to use twelve stat

It's not the standard that made it reliable for you, it's the company that made/maintained the chargers. The vast majority of these companies are shitty, fly-by-night companies that can't scale up to maintain their netw

10 years ago, at a job interview, the manager asked me what IDE I wanted. I can't remember what I was using at the time, but he asked if I wanted PHPStorm. I said I had never used it. He said, "It'll change your life,"

You apparently haven't read Fielding's paper. Etsy isn't doing it right. If you read Fielding's paper, OP's point is correct. The whole URL is a resource.

Two thoughts: 1) There's no way to enforce this to private companies in the US without passing some sort of Federal law. I'm pretty certain no states have passed anything like this either. 2) So, we can assume the alliance is gov

I ordered the smallest ICE possible at Boston Logan a couple of weeks ago from Hertz. There wasn't anything but electrics (in this case, a Volt) so I took it because I was eager to go visit my uncle in CT. Huge mistake. Like my last e

I do believe that the traditional PM role/background should be considered obsolete, especially in software companies. Well-rounded engineers should be in these roles these days.

A lack of engineering leadership is certainly true. As is often told, the VP of engineering enjoyed creating PRs more than actually leading. There has never been an architect. The point is though, product never challenged on approaches,

Every thing you just said rings true. I went from 20 years engineering into engineering management, and took my first PM role last year. I took the role at a twenty year-old software company that's never had good product management,

I had several companies where the PM were horrible, lost, and egotistical. I then ran into a company where the PM spent ten years as a developer for some popular game companies. That guy was worth his weight in gold. Development was so mu

Ridiculous entitled view. At minimum, vets have to do undergrad + four years of vet school. If you find a board certified vet, they will have gone through 1-2 years of internships, and another 2-3 years of a residency, plus board exams.
