EDIT: Please disregard the below. I was wrong as pointed out by fpgeek. The poor performance is probably mostly due to the fact that the version of android on the fire is version 2.2. Version 2.3 is the one that got all the performance impr

You're correct. The immediate fix was to just upload the font but the long-term fix was as you pointed out. At first we would only treat urls with certain file types (jpg, png, mp4, etc) as files when found on the server, the rest as pages

Maybe you should wait until you get it and make up your own mind? I haven't used it but I wouldn't put much faith in a "review" by an Apple fanboy who refuses to port his hugely popular instapaper app to Android because he hates it.

And that's why you should always have great analytics. Monitoring is what found a similarly subtle bug at my past job once. In the later afternoon a marketing guy on the traffic team came over and told me there was a problem with our trial

No, it's mainly a question of making sure graduates aren't people who "don't know what they don't know". What I mean by this is that when you come across some common engineering problem, if you've never seen it before, you'll spend a lot of

I wish it were this simple. The school gives this guy a great amount of latitude and it's great that they do because he's truly knowledgeable, does a lot of research and helps his students a lot. But, for every one of him, there are many ot

Amazon was nowhere near immediately viable. It was founded in 1994. It had its IPO in 1997. It posted its first net profit in 2002. It lost money for 8 years. Hardly "something that was viable immediately". On the other hand it didn't take

Zynga was founded in July 2007 making it 4 years and 3 months old. It's likely that almost no one has fully vested yet unless they hired a lot in their first month.

The difference between a pay cut and a stock restriction is that pay is regular and vesting is not. Let's say you renegotiate down 50% like you suggested. That means from now on you make 50% and before you made 100%. A vesting schedule thou

The vast majority of outliers do indeed seem to be data entry errors. There are a lot of cases where the prevailing wage is something like 85k but the person makes 890k. They probably actually make 89k. Also, while I know New York is expens

I took a quick look at the map view of this data and couldn't really come up with anything compelling to show, although a time series of bubble sizes could definitely be interesting.

You're right, that would definitely be interesting stuff to look at. I'll probably delve deeper into this in a couple of days.. For now I just fixed up all my charts and I'm about to start editing the post where my commentary is now off.

If you mean for example the average of all programmers inside Microsoft compared to the average of those on H1B, no I can't since that data isn't public. The H1B database is public and you're required by law to register every H1B hire in it
