I've recently finished up to chapter 3 and already I can say I highly recommend reading this. So far it's been excellent.

It's definitely an age thing. I've been through both your and the GP's situations since I've graduated university and thought that Facebook jumped the shark... Until I talked to both of my younger brothers that still use facebook the same w

The others might be fine but I'd advise against moving to web frontend unless you're really interested in that. Senior web frontend positions are pretty much non-existent and from what I can tell those guy don't get anywhere near as much re

Cheezburger Network seems to be scooping up the business model you're mentioning, bringing the 4chan and reddit memes that are likely to have a broad audience into the mainstream and monetizing them.

What roots are you referring to? As pointed out by another in this article's discussion, Zynga has a well documented history of not caring about original production but rather looking around for successfull social games, copying them and th

If Google was that analytics driven they would get rid of it for people that don't use it. I haven't used it since gmail was in beta, I definitely haven't used it for at least 5+ years. And yet it's still there.

I used to spend a lot of time on t61 which does exactly what you're talking about. http://www.thesixtyone.com/ I stopped using it when they did the big redesign. I find the new interface nowhere near as good or useful as the old one but I

For what it's worth I think you and 37 Signals probably do believe what you say in the blog but given how inflammatory it often is it sets of my inner cynic constantly.

Whatever individual 37 Signals people's actual thoughts about VCs and valuations, don't believe that it's necessarily what they write in their blog. Their blog is not an informal discussion medium. They make it out to to be but it isn't. It

You're right that it doesn't mean the research won't go forwards since it's currently being funded by "philanthropic groups and individuals" according to wikipedia's article on Dichloroacetic acid which is a much better summary for lay peop

When left to my own devices I simply sleep when I feel tired. My normal cycle will be something like sleep for 6-12 hours and stay up anywhere from 16 to 20 hours. Sometimes I'll take a nap for an hour or two somewhere in there. As far as I

Creating a pivot table is very different from simply opening an excel file. Conceptually (it may be more optimized internally) it tries to create a cube of all possible results with all others. (An OLAP cube.) So if you have columns 1, 2, 3
