Yes. The aluminum chassis is basically a heat sink. The underside of the M1 Air heats up when the soc is under load. Cooling that spot will help cool the soc.

Well put. Following that line of thought I’d say that by now crypto has shown that you can never trust a system, in the end you have to trust the people behind it. I find people to be more trustworthy when they go to jail if they do wrong.

One day a publisher walks into the studio and says: we’re shipping in 6 months. We need cashflow now, if we sell well you’ll have time for a patch before we start on the DLC.

In my European country there is a somewhat common view that there are other kinds of work that also need doing. For instance, taking care of the young and elderly is often done by women in their ‘own’ time. When paid, this is considered wor

Holy cow imagine if the interface to handle documents would be the interface people already know. I’m not even joking, this is a brilliant idea. Our company has people working in Moodle constantly. I’m sure 50% of their time is spent clicki

Local / online hybrid LLM’s could replace googling and Apple is in a great position to provide them. The scary question is how they will monetize this.

“I was extremely worried about downgrading to a phone from four years ago, but it turns out I’m totally fine (…)” Whenever I read stuff like this I really wonder who these people are. Are you using your phone to host your billion dollar AI

Well of course it has to register the keystrokes first. And only when it knows which key you struck can it produce that Dolby Surround spatially consistent clack.

I’m super productive when I’m relaxed, happy and working on something I value. When I’m feeling depressed, I just can’t. It took me a while (10+ years) to learn how to feel my emotions and take them into account when trying to understand my

True, but because there are many ways to satisfy the borrow checker it is very easy to arrive at needlessly complicated solutions. Idiomatic solutions on the other hand aren’t always obvious.

Yes, I agree. Usually these posts rely on a very deterministic ontology to make logical ‘frameworks’ stick. The word framework here is a huge exaggeration for what is essentially a single question. The question is made to seem very interest

There is a perfect equivalent in ‘hoe is het?’ or ‘alles goed?’ Those are mostly used as a syn/ack-phrase so to speak.

I bought a used HP Microserver gen 8 last year. Cost maybe 100 euros. Dual core, 8 gigs of RAM, raid controller, dual Ethernet and ELO (which is better than I expected). It only uses 10 to 25 watts depending on load. I run arch on it (yes…

If you need capslock that’s easy to emulate in software nowadays. For instance KDE has a default option to toggle capslock by pressing both shift keys.

Yeah it’s a nice variation on ‘todays kids don’t want to work anymore.’ In this episode it turns out they’re too stupid! This place is going to hell in a hand basket I tell you! In my day we learned to use a slide rule and that got me throu

From an American perspective it could be. Amsterdam is the largest city in our country and it still pulls together walking, cycling and public transport in a way that doesn’t suck. Of course smaller towns have it easier in some ways because

Same here. I read a couple of literature reviews on climate change on a particular hot summer vacation in 2016. It completely voided me of all hope that humans would somehow manage to ‘solve’ the wave of misery that is rushing towards us.
