This claim has been made, but it turned out not to be true (so far). I.e. everyone without AC did not die when the wet bulb temperature exceeded the apparent limit: https://www.almendron.com/tribuna/the-mysteriously-low

Maybe this will lead to a re-centralization of information. We'll have to trust certain sources instead of taking reddit or some blog/video found through google at face value. Back to Walter Cronkite.

Two kinds of people will buy them: enthusiasts and people suffering from chronic conditions with nowhere else to turn. Similarly, you can buy unapproved, unresearched medication on the internet. You take on the risk. Personally I like the i

It's funny how this debate has shifted. Now that Elon owns twitter, it's Elon haters bringing up the law whereas before they were talking about how twitter can do what they want as a private company. For my money, there's abs

There's nothing subjective about central heating, air conditioning, healthcare, and living in homes that can easily withstand hurricanes and flooding.

It's very clear that burning fossil fuels is the right move unless there's some catastrophic outcome associated with climate change. This is because economic progress compounds. A small GDP gain now will be huge in a century. I

A lot of people have made this argument -- that he was treated gently -- but to me that looks like good old-fashioned journalism. People have become so acclimated to the decline of objective journalism that when they see it, something seems

I read you correctly. Congratulations on looking up the full comments (or at least more of them) but you're still reading it wrong because you can't handle the fact that someone smart disagrees with you.

No, I'm not projecting, I'm taking what he said at face value... He didn't just say "brave" and "creative". He said more than that, including some semi-negative comments about Elon's general behavior,

There's no reasonable way to interpret his comments that way. You're projecting your opinion onto someone who doesn't share it.

You don't like Elon and expect people you hold in esteem to agree even when they state the opposite. I know this is mind-blowing but there exist smart, talented people who disagree with you. And not just about this. Also, the claim tha

Of course he means it. And praising Elon, who is controversial, could absolutely hurt him. Also, EQ isn't the same as machiavellian scheming to further your self interest.

"Left-bias" is putting it mildly. It's becoming increasingly clear that twitter censored certain people/content at the behest of the Biden administration.

People want an algorithm for how to moderate speech. But there's no such thing. You just need people with good judgement and it's hard to define what good judgement is. HN has it. Previous twitter did not have good judgement. It h

I think reason and empiricism are useful tools. But so are intuition, deontological ethics (thou shalt/thou shalt not), and adherence to tradition. I don't think we can do without any of these things and EA seriously overrates rea

No trans person has ever asked me to change how I speak. It seems unlikely that trans people as a group would feel better if everyone changed how they speak. I don't believe gender dysphoria works that way.
