Yeah this is tough everywhere. In Chicago I could easily be paying for mortgage on decent house for what I'm paying in rent. It's just that I'm in my mid-20s and only really been making decent money for a year. It's goin

Asyncio rocks. It’s so easy to create performant little apps that can get put up without a web server in front of them. Type hinting rocks. Use it properly everywhere and you can a lot of confidence and speed when refactoring. I use attrs (

Yeah I think probably the biggest accelerating factor is out of the box user account & auth management. That gives you a huge leap from “hey my app works” to “I can literally deploy this to the public right now”. The models and rest fra

I can see Go slowly eating Python's lunch for web services here. It's close to Python's productivity and much less resource-hungry while being more performant for many use cases. Go still has a way to go in terms of productiv

I tend to combine books and tutorials... the more in-depth the better. I know Python best but am very quickly getting just as comfortable with Go. Would probably want to do this work in Go Also maybe Rust cuz I want to get around it someday

The async stack traces I've come across in Python are extremely simple to grok. I've never had something I couldn't figure out. (Using aiohttp, aoipg, asyncpg). I can't even say the same for synchronous Django. Sometimes

While VS Code is definitely good in general, and first choice for languages like JavaScript, I find it really hard to compare it to JetBrains PyCharm and GoLand (understanding GoLand has no free version). The debugging and refactoring exper

Hydra looks like another popular open source solution, but it leaves you to implement the user login and challenge. I have been writing a hobby OpenID server as a way to learn Go and to understand auth. Reading the OpenID connect spec is SO

I just booted a MacBook Air into Mint recently and I think I finally figured out what the difference is: Mac allows the cursor to move quickly, but where it differs & excels is how fast it decelerates or stops the cursor. On Linux, I

Use the Transit app, it is almost completely focused on city transit only + walking. It suggests ubers and bike shares, but they’re pushed down to the bottom of the options list.
