We also make software for healthcare customers, and asked the same question re: IE7 support internally. Sadly our stats show that IE7 usage for our clients is at 59%! Down from a peak at 81% but still crazily high. We're hoping the Ap

Cruise ships are also an amazing alternative to nursing homes. I did some work for p&o cruises, on a ship that focused on round the world trips. These was one old lady there in her 80s who had swapped a nursing home for the ship - and h

It saddens me that this is the current top comment (to me it's a good example of what PG was complaining about) - this video is a comment on VCs, not on Tesla. Tesla is just the straight man. But the top comment is nit picking on how Tesla

If you have an iPad I highly recommend getting LiquidSketch. It's a great puzzler about getting pools of liquid into the right place, and the liquid effect is stunning. It moves exactly as expected, has surface tension, splits and recombi

Yes, but there was general outrage at the terrible queues at Heathrow - e.g. see http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-18672286 it was raised in Parliament even, everyone said it was unacceptable and it was then fixed. Is the poor service in the

There are already quite a few products that do exactly that. I work for one of those companies - we specialise in nurse scheduling (though also cover doctors and other healthcare staff), and have systems that both manage the hospital's dem

This reminds me of how my visual psychology professor was attempting to help those with poor vision 15 years ago, but didn't appear to get anywhere with at the time. The idea was a simple (but clever) one - use virtual reality to segment th

I'm not saying this is the only reason for the lack of warm up (especially today), but it was a significant part of the perceived reduction from old diesels. It's also why if you put petrol in the car by mistake, you can still ruin the eng

One similar anecdote I really like is what happened with diesel cars. You used to have to wait when starting the engine for it to ‘warm up’ and drivers obviously didn’t like that. Now you don’t have the wait. They actually hadn’t reduce

To be clear - I work for a software company that sells to enterprise (government) customers. So we can't fix their IE6 problem. We have one product that requires IE7 and have had some major push back with that in some places (for example,

The real challenge is with enterprise applications that need a rich UI - this is where Flex was a good solution. Saying "just use HTML5" is fine when you serve the consumer space; it's not if you serve enterprises. HTML5 is just not a go-e

It's like removing karma on articles, and saying 'if you don't have time to read the articles and evaluate for yourself which ones are good or bad why are you even here'? For me there are a number of answers to your question: - I love HN be
