A number of people here pointed out that the writer's original claim to be false positive proof simply because he'd used the tool for a long time was ridiculous. Unfortunately for him he's learning this the hard way. "The findings are fals

I submitted an article yesterday about how it's peers that influence children not parents, and there was a very relevant quote: "Developed societies have a special age group for people who are no longer children but are not yet adults, and

Judith Rich Harris's research started with a seemingly preposterous null hypothesis: "How the parents rear the child has no long-term effects on the child's personality, intelligence, or mental health." But the evidence does not refute it.

It seems like part of the problem with procurement was not clearly illustrating that a discount had been applied after all. PM: Well I’m going to need some kind of discount. How about 30%? Me: As it says on our website, we don’t discount. P

Apple didn't previously have Flash support in iOS and then remove it... taking something working out for ideological reasons is much worse than never adding something in for ideological reasons in my book.

It's all well and good to focus future effort on alternative technologies that you have a preference for. But to remove a feature you currently support that works well...that's a poor decision that doesn't help your users or the web in gene

See Barrkel's post below http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=2022642 - it's not something you can always negotiate. I don't care if others choose money over time - I'm saying many just don't have that choice.

Coming from the uk, whilst I'd love to work for a US based tech company something that would strongly make me reconsider is the terrible lack of paid vacation. 20 days is the minimum here - many (including me) get 25 and that allows for som

The opposite would be really good for designers - augmented reality of what a colour blind person would see. Would be good to check if your design is going to make life difficult for the colour blind.

I don't think the argument is that they are not faultless. It's that they see the Western faults (treating their elderly relatives so poorly) as so much worse than their faults in a related area (treating animals poorly). It's a valid obs

It's interesting how cultures differ on some of these. I was speaking to a friend who works in China. He says he often discusses with the locals their appalling treatment of animals, which can be genuinely shocking to Westerners. He says

The UI looks very impressive from the video. Very slick and fluid, the multitasking animation in particular is lovely. Will be interesting if this is the real UI or not - it might just be a mockup like that infamous Nokia N97 promotional v

It's a pretty poor example. I'll try and put some others up. But look at 'sebastianmarshall.com' on line 4 - it's so much more compressed. In fact, before it is 139px wide, with acceleration it is only 132px wide: it's not just the look,
