I didn't design Kandan, but I do think it's beautiful. And as I said, that's because of Sacha Greif's amazing work. Design in open source is - in general - sorely lacking. We want to correct that, and help herald in a new era of apps that a

Not everything needs to be beautiful, but we wanted to Kandan to be. We had a prototype of Kandan we called Kogo initially, but it was pretty ugly. We went out of our way to make sure that Kandan was as pleasant to use as possible, visually

I personally would love to see it be a self-contained irc/xmpp/jabber/faye server, but all in good time. We want to make open-source beautiful, easy to access, and easily extensible. So we're releasing what we have now, with plenty of momen

The beautiful part of Kandan is courtesy of the design by Sacha Greif. He wrote an ebook about how he went about designing it, and it was discussed here: http://news.ycombinator.org/item?id=3731135 The amazing implementation is from a lot

It goes without saying that if you've ever met these two, you know they're in a league of their own. They have the same kind of unstoppable, world-be-damned nature that I've seen in the Justin.tv and Airbnb teams, which is inspiring and hum

Congrats to Michael and co. The success that Socialcam is enjoying makes me laugh - given the amazing hard-work the justin.tv team put in for years hustling, building, learning to deal with crazy unbelievable challenges, it just feels ri

David Lee (and all of the SV Angel team, in fact) is really an amazingly interesting figure. The integrity, responsiveness, and genuine interest was completely mind-blowing, and I don't know that I've experienced anything like it elsewhere

Haha, I appreciate the sentiment. And yeah, Amazon's marketplace is pretty exciting for us as well - their approach is obviously quite different, but it's very cool to see movement like this higher up on the stack.

One thing I'll say about Locomotive, besides it being just an awesome take on CMS and being incredibly powerful under the hood, is that the quality of code just completely blew me away. Didier, and later other members of the team like Mar

I actually agree with the OP in general. I have a mistrust of MongoDB overall, and avoid using it in big, data-intensive situations... BUT, in LocomotiveCMS and a few others, it make brilliant sense. Like you mentioned, it's very lightweigh
