They haven't tried to overtly, aggressively monetize hacker news. Also subjectively the quality of the comments is still pretty high compared to other similar sites.

I don't think anyone is arguing that ending the war on drugs is going to directly reduce these crimes. It may have an impact on these crimes from second order effects, but to really tackle those crimes you would need to go one step fur

How much of current drug arrests are related to addicts looking for a fix? Spoiler alert, it's a tiny fraction. Theft and assault should still be crimes. Usage should not be criminalized. Trafficking should be replaced with regulated c

Waiting to be frisked is not analogous to commuting at all. If amazon isn't paying for your time in line, they have no incentive to make it fast. They can invest the bare minimum to protect their own interests, and fuck over their work

If 95% of women reject your profile, would you get more matches if your profile was in front of 10 women or 10,000?

If you do get an offer, and choose not to take it, that's dodging a bullet. If you don't get the offer there's no bullet to dodge, right? </pedandtry>

I don't see the analogy. Evidence for fast food being less healthy than a salad is pretty overwhelming, consumers don't care and choose fries anyway. Lead pollution harms everyone, not just the person who burns it. And, lead isn&#

You keep cumin seeds, and then toast and freshly grind them the day you need them. Same with coriander, cardamom, anise, cinnamon, dried chilis, etc.

I knew two 10x developers at my previous job. One of them was humble and a great mentor and elevated everyone around him. One was a grump who made everyone around him feel stupid. Imo toxicity is independent from productivity.

I think most tech startups would aspire not to increase prices, but increase market share such that selling a high volume at the original price is enough to cover the investment and start to turn a profit. Of course you might price your pro

I think it's not that simple. Flying to see your family is always more costly than being close to your family, even when flights are "cheap". What causes people to want to move? What causes people to be ok paying the cost?

You don't take measurements over a single day, that's what I meant by integrating. You take measurements over a long period of time and analyze them.

You can probably get a pretty accurate measurement by integrating water pressure over time and taking an average, and you could probably reduce error further by using an array of pressure sensors.

I reject the idea that you have to be tracked to not be tracked. Imagine a system where you opt in to tracking, if you are not opted in, no data about you is written into any system used for business analysis. Of course you can't/
