I've been the Director. HR mostly sets salary bands. The recruiter, candidate (via negotiating), and hiring manager can only really move around within those bands. Those bands are largely based on market research.

I once started as a senior engineer at a company most folks here would have heard of and was told on arrival that every engineer first has to work a short period in support. The idea was to learn the product and customers. In theory this so

Coincidentally enough, today is actually the anniversary of the deposition of the last Roman Emperor in the west, Romulus Augustus. That happened on September 4th 476.

Google is in such a strange state. I deal with Googlers several times a week, and their defining characteristic is hubris. It seems like their arrogance blinds them to the fact that their credibility has been in a free-fall for years. Publi

The American regulatory landscape is a death-by-a-thousand cuts that ends up serving to entrench established businesses. Most of them seem reasonable when looked at in isolation, but they add up to an insurmountable burden for most would-be

It seems like Kabbage specifically targets loans to online businesses, which are booming right now. Even still, it seems the decline predates the pandemic.

Is this because of a looming threat of regulation? These businesses strike me as essentially online payday loans (extremely high rates, short term).

I'll throw another hat in the "MUDs got me into tech" ring. I spent significant time on Swords of Chaos, a sort of proto-MUD, then on various God Wars incarnations. They were the first time that I realized, and truly apprecia
