This is a really, really, really great idea that I've been thinking should be practical for a couple of months now. I wish these guys the best of luck. I even started work on a (not yet even vaguely functional) prototype of an open-sou

My biggest problem with 2FA that relies on a phone is that I can lose my phone. If I do, the system can then do one of two things: a) it locks me out forever. I'm screwed. b) it has a way to reset my auth. Meaning an attacker doesn

None of the online-only sources are yet at a level of quality where I, wearing my hiring-manager hat, would take them seriously enough to justify the money spent. They'll get there eventually, but they're not there now. Is there a

Though by no means essential for a career in computing, a computer science degree is incredibly useful. At the very least, at the end of your course the skills you have now will have been given a stamp of authenticity by the accreditation,

I think the most important point here is that you should hire engineers from your domain , but not necessarily your exact technology stack -- in their case it's simple because almost no engineers know Erlang well, so they have to hire

I didn't say I don't use RSS ; I just don't use it for news (or any kind of reading). I plumb it into automation quite often, though.

Remember kids, if you work hard, sacrifice, and have parents with a spare house in Tahoe they can lend you rent-free indefinitely, you too can make it as a programmer.

This is good as far as it goes -- nice to see further corroboration that EBS is not always the best solution. What I'd really like to see is details of how the traffic monitoring works, how you calculate how much extra capacity to spin

My two big takeaways from this are: 1. Amazon sells every Kindle ebook at a loss of $3 -- they pay $13 wholesale and sell it for $9.99. I thought this was a typo, but then Jobs repeated the figure (though he said $12.50). It was my impressi

Tumblr is ad inventory for Yahoo. Specifically, mobile ad inventory -- most of Tumblr's revenue comes from mobile ads. Mobile is a huge area of growth that Yahoo is anxious to stay on top of. They don't need Tumblr's audience to go anywhere

I don't see why Yahoo would make any visible changes to Tumblr[1]. They care about the ad inventory; if they are smart they will leave the actual form of the site up to the people who invented it. [1] although, as with Flickr, any changes t
